Author's Review
I bought this in 2006, so I've had it for a while. I love this camcorder. It takes decent video - we watch it on a 46 inch screen and it seems to be fine. I mean, obviously we're not talking newscast quality here, but it can take a pretty good picture.
Transferring the video to the computer couldn't be easier. My 6 year old can do it! I do recommend an extra storage drive for your computer. I don't usually take the time to delete footage.
The Cyberlink software that came with the camcorder is extremely easy to use. You can make some pretty impressive DVDs with your footage and this software. We send movies with music, pictures, effects to our family. It is much more enjoyable to watch that many home videos I have watched .
I was surprised this camcorder had such bad reviews. I have loved it. I have had complaints such as the battery not lasting long. I think this is usually more of a problem because I am usually video taping hockey games and figure skating competitions. None of my battery operated gadgets last long in the cold. When I am using it in the summer I do not notice it being a problem, unless I leave it on - which, for some reason, happens often.
Video taping in dim lighting is difficult. The light isn't bright enough to help at most distances. You can turn off the auto focus, but then it is still pretty tricky to get the focus to stay set if your object is moving.
The still pictures are not great, but I use my kodak easyshare camera and I have only used the camcorder for that once or twice.
