Roomba: A new Member of our Family

We got this Roomba to replace an older model and we just love her. HER, yes it is a her. It cannot be a him, she works TOO HARD. We love our roomba. She has become a member of our family. We bought it because we had a 18 month old toddler who was crawling and walking and whatever on the floor was considered food, or at least good for teething. This model is a big upgrade from our previous as she docks herself, to recharge. We put her in the kitchen, right next to the doorway to the living room, and her little beacons direct her around and back to her base.

We love that we can schedule her. She runs most of the time while we are at work. We made some mistakes early on and got the treat of Roomba entering our room at 2am, vice 2PM as we thought. She also is smart enough to know when a. the room is clean and b. she is too tired to continue...must rest...feeling faint...orange blinky light. She goes back to her base, recharges and comes out again, to finish the job. She has a new spinny side brush that does great on the edges, although does have a tendency to break off arms. Good thing that Irobot customer service totally rocks and sends me a couple new ones overnight! She gets a lot of fine dust, ALL the cat and dog hair, and the dirt. She is a little loud but hey ..>SHE IS VACUUMING FOR ME< she an be as loud as she wants to be. You do have to move some things out of her way but not because she will get hung up on them, more so she can access some areas that my sons legos or sit and spin might not permit. She bumps into us all the time in the kitchen but just bumps off of us and goes in opposite direction. She does the transition from carpet to linoleum fine and I have friends that use her on hardwood.

We like that, if she does get stuck somewhere like under the bed, she will beep to tell you and then cut off so she doesnt kill her battery. She talks and tells you exactly what is wrong with her, like "Please remove my dustbin and empty me". Irobot customer service is great, will help you deal with any problem. The Irobot people make military and tactical robots for bomb squads. The thing is big and sturdy and wont break under years of abuse. Parts are readily available for it online if you wear something out.
