The Yamaha DV-S5770 is a bargain basement universal player which performs well beyond its price point.
The player is unexpectedly light and a little disappointing in its finish (the brushed aluminum front plant is not a tight fit), but I got it for its playback ability rather than cosmetics.
I got this player for its music ability, because I have a DVD recorder that isn't made for high-quality musical playback. For $250, I am all smiles.
After 48 hours of burn in, the player offers brilliant detail on CD and SACD. I haven't tried any DVD-Audio discs yet, but the pattern is there. This is a fine music machine.
The DVD side of the player is equally competent, especially in component video mode.
If you don't want to spend the kind of money required or don't have the resources to spend on a high-end universal player this Yamaha is a great entry point for high definition audio.
