First machine destroyed itself on the fourth wash. The replacement machine is running great.

I bought this machine to replace a 6 year old Kenmore Elite Calypso whose extended warranty ran out but its problems did not. This machine was delivered on a Monday and we put it right to work. With a family of 5 including 3 children, 6 and younger, the laundry builds up. This new machine was bigger and ran fine for the first 3 loads. For the fourth load on Thursday, we had a single blanket from my 4 year old's bed. When I came to pull it out, the machine was signaling that the lid was not locked. Well, that was the least of the problem. The agitator had come loose and absolutely destroyed the machine. The agitator and the parts that hold it together were in many pieces. A large hole was punched into the side of the tub. The stainless steel basket had large dents in it. The tub assembly itself had broken free from the sides of the machine ( this is what broke the lid lock.) I have no idea what other internal damage was done to this machine. Chunks of broken plastic might have gone into the pump. I have never seen anything like the damage this machine inflicted on itself.

The repairman is coming on Saturday to see if it is repairable. My extended warranty ( apparently a necessity with Whirlpool products) states they will replace it if it is unrepairable. It might very well be unrepairable. It seems many moving parts inside the machine have been damaged.

Here is the update on this machine. The service tech stated that he thought the first machine was unrepairable. He stated it would take him about a month to get all of the replacement parts and there would be no guarantee that the machine would work right when it was done. He wrote the ticket up to say the machine was wrecked.

Although it took a little longer than I had hoped for (about 10 days) Whirlpool, PC Richards, and Buyers Edge (especially Joe) got it together and got me a replacement machine (same model). The new one is running great; it is fast and quiet. All involved said the problem with the first machine was "very unusual". Lets hope so.
