Weeee-zer. Weeee-zer. What the heck is that? A band? Oh. This was not the first album that I listened to from Weeee-zer but as I backtracked, I found the better of all of them although Pinkerton is an underrated treasure. I discovered this CD with help from a friend who pointed out to me that there were two colors. “No!” I gasped. Certainly enough, there was blue and green next to each other. Wow.

I played this record over and over and just became more heavy into the scene of Weezer. I realized after about the… *counts on fingers* ninth time of playing the CD that this was a depressing album. Most every song deals with love lost which sounds cliché, but is done in an interesting way. It almost isn’t regret but it is “you’re an idiot note” to River’s himself in a sense. (River’s being the lead singer/guitarist)

I enjoyed it thoroughly and I think anyone who has heard the hits on the record can agree that those songs do this CD little justice because there is so much awesome music to find.

Hello there. My Name is Jonas. This is a perfect opener because it is addictive, jumpy, and simply catchy. This really does grab the bull by the balls and pulls it into the train known as Weezer. I know, weird visual, but it makes sense to me. River’s voice is crisp and clear. I absolutely adore his geeky and original voice and it’s really shown off here.

No One Else is a song that is about the want for a girl who will bend over backwards for a guy or else some girl that is just completely in love with him. I don’t know how realistic it is. The melody and typical Weezer way in this song is perfect and no matter how easy it will be to obtain this ideal girl, you sympathize with him.

The World has Turned and Left Me Here has remnants of the first song but as you can tell, is completely different. This is a slower song about everything seeming to move ahead of him. I enjoy this song and although the guitar is simple, it emphasizes the point. It has a mixture of sour notes, which is different and nice.

Buddy Holly is among the more familiar songs along with Undone [The Sweater Song] and Say it Ain’t So. All of these songs seem to have more of the pop/up beat feel while sticking to the nerd punk theme. I tend to find Buddy Holly towering over the other two although they’re all damn good songs. Buddy is just so much more interesting with an actual story. Undone is a great song as well but sometimes drags. This was and is extremely popular on the radio. Say it Ain’t So is a wonderfully jumpy song and I enjoy it more than the others on a good day.

*Ahh, my CD is scratched. Must purchase new one. Anyway.*

The picking of Surf Wax America sounds like My Name is Jonas and The World has Turned. . . but as the song progresses, it reveals an interesting viewpoint that cars are not the way to go but a surf board wont ever run out of gas. While this remains true, it’s difficult to get places without a car. This wonderful little ditty is just emphasizing the simplicity of things though, when you can surf instead of having to worry about going to work.

In the Garage is one of my favorites because it really displays the nerds that these guys are. How can you not be a nerd if you have Dungeons and Dragons in your garage? I connect with them because, hey, I played it too. This is another catchy and perfect tune and I like the idea of taking sanctuary In the Garage. I know when I need to escape I go to our excluded office in the garage to play my guitar.

Holiday is almost the preceding song to Island in the Sun from Green. This is definitely a fun song to be cruising down PCH or something like that. It is jumpy, light, and perfectly catchy.

Coming in with a compelling bass lines, Only in Dreams is one of the better songs (out of a wonderful CD) and is the longest running at 8 minutes. It is slow and River’s voice glides with the ever-prevalent bass. The guitar picks in slowly and just builds the emotion. I like this song because it builds up nicely and it is a nice way to end the CD.

If you like this album and others by the band, there are a bunch of unreleased songs that I have put together on an album. If you can find them on your own, they’re definitely worthwhile, but if not, feel free to contact me and I’ll either send you a copy or get you a listing of the songs.

So enjoy this album and then go straight to Pinkerton, get some Green stuff, and check out Maladroit while your at it. These are one of the bands that you want to hear all that you can from them. You can connect with them easily as well. You’ll find that they are easily misunderstood and expressed in this album. Many are.
