Good Features, But A Little Pricey.

Date of Review:  Nov 25, 2004
The Bottom Line: Nice features and less noise than many 2.4 GHz DSS expandable telephones. Give it a try!
Review: The VTech 5831 is a 2 piece digital cordless telephone. It is one of the first telephones to utilize the 5.8 GHz frequency and can expand to add up to 5 optional handsets to bring the number of usable handsets to 6. This will allow you to put a...

This is not your cheap, entry level phone anymore!

Date of Review:  Aug 17, 2004
The Bottom Line: Great phone overall and really makes my life a whole lot less agravating. A long list of features will keep you out of the phone market for a few years.
Review: My first experience with this phone was when Bellsouth sent one with their logo on it. When I received my first bill for it, it promptly was returned as they had told me the phone was "just $30" not 6 (yes, 6) installments of $30!! Installments?!!...

No more WiFi interference hassles

Date of Review:  Apr 28, 2003
The Bottom Line: I recommend the 5831 if you're having WiFi troubles and want an office phone set-up with speaker-phone. Watch out if you need an answering machine. Definite long-term quality issues.
Review: See 2004 follow-up addition below

I recently set up an 802.11b wireless network in my home office. The biggest problem with WiFi is that it uses the same 2.4GHz band that many cordless phones use. So on a fairly random basis one would pick...

Looks great, but defective...

Date of Review:  Sep 15, 2003
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't buy another Vtech until I hear from several sources that they are a good phone.
Review: I finally got the courage to try a Vtech after reading about how they seem to be putting out pretty good phone products. The reason I purchased this model is because I bought a studio that only has one phone jack in a not so convenient location. So...

This is a fantastic expandable phone system

Date of Review:  Jan 23, 2004
The Bottom Line: No further explanation is required for a superior product. I don't normally do reviews, but I'm so happy with it I had to write this one.
Review: After reviewing other Epinion comments and other 5.8 Ghz offerings, I decided to try the VT-5831. I'm 60 years old so I'm not prone to quick or subjective judgments.

Short version; I'm absolutely delighted with this phone.

Long...

Good for the price

Date of Review:  Mar 8, 2003
The Bottom Line: Excellent phone with great features. Range is not what is expected, but other than that, it's worth it.
Review: A pretty descent phone. The only thing is that the range isn't so great for a 5.8 ghz phone. My last phone which was a Panasonic 2.4 ghz phone actually had better range. Don't ask how, maybe it had something to do with quality. Also the sound is not...

5.8GHz / 2.4GHz phone has excellent reception, and WORKS WITH THE POWER OUT!

Date of Review:  Apr 5, 2003
The Bottom Line: This phone displays a good compromise of features.
Review: Don't be fooled by the terminology, because this phone should be called 5.8/2.4 GHz: Since this is a common marketing ploy, please allow me to share a little history.

When the 2.4GHz phones first came out, I attempted to purchase a...

Great Phone

Date of Review:  Jan 21, 2004
The Bottom Line: Like I said above, this phone is hard to beat in terms of value.
Review: I recently purchased the Vtech 5.8 Ghz cordless phone with an additional handset for my home business. Before I purchased (like everyone should) I looked here for comments and wasn't overwhelmed with what I read. There are "issues" with it not being...

Great New Phone

Date of Review:  Dec 19, 2002
The Bottom Line: I would buy this phone if you like to talk and you want clear reception and do not want to read the manual.
Review: Cordless phone have come a long way from the AT&T phones of the past. Me and my wife liked this phone right out of the box.

Specs
? 5.8 GHz which means clearest call on the market
? Base and handset speaker phone
? Different...

Poor range

Date of Review:  Nov 22, 2002
The Bottom Line: Features and asthetics are nice, but if you need range look elseware.
Review: First of all I'm a cordless phone junky and have to have the latest and greatest. My long range champ is an old Uniden 900mhz DSS EXS 9800. I have yet to find a 900mhz or 2.4gig that will beat it. Based on the hype of 5.8gig I thought the Uniden...
