Author's Review
I have been wanting a pair of UGGS for two years now. Dont get me wrong, I like wearing high heels and pretty sandals and completely uncomfortable torture shoes just like any other girl. But I also wear my crocs to work all the time because they are so comfortable. Since I sit and look at a computer screen all day, I want to feel comfortable everywhere. There is a giant window beside my desk that blows in cold air, so I usually have a space heater going and my parka on. I needed UGGS in the worst way to keep my feet nice and toasty! Well, my eyes were set on a big shoe-box like present under the tree all wrapped up in silver from Nordstroms. Christmas morning I raced to the living room and tore open the pretty silver bow and then the paper and the cardboard box said UGGS!! I opened them ever so gently to relish the moment and there, in front of my star-lit eyes were the most beautiful ugly pair of sheep skin boots I had ever seen, the UGG Classic Short Boots in chocolate brown. I really havent taken them off much since I got them!
A Little History About UGGS
In 1978 a surfer from Australia took a bag of sheepskin boots with him to California. Apparently California Surfers loved them, and the UGG brand began. Deckers Outdoor Corporation acquired UGG in 1995, and by 1998 there were a few different styles. Then, in 2000, (and I remember this quite well), Oprah Winfrey chose UGGS to be on her favourite things show and she gave all of her staff a pair and everyone in the audience a pair as well. She again chose UGGS in 2003 and in 2005. They became a must-have amongst luxury shoe shoppers and a big hit with teens. Incidentally, the last time Oprah aired a show featuring UGGS it was in November, so they were the craze for the Christmas season.
What Are They Made Of?
UGGS are made from the best quality sheepskin which they call twin faced meaning that they are treated on the skin side and the wool side. The unique material allows the boot to breathe and wick to keep dry, and sheepskin is naturally water resistant. This is a pretty cool fact: UGG advertises that their boots will keep bare feet cool in temperatures as low as -30F to 80F, as the sheepskin naturally insulates.
How Do They Look?
Well, I will have to admit that UGGS get their name honestly. I mean, my parents saw them and they thought they were the ugliest shoes theyve ever seen. The UGG Classic Short Boots are the most common kind, although there are so many cool new kinds. There are slippers and shoes and all kinds of boots now, and many of the new products are displayed on their website: http://www.uggaustralia.com/. But, getting back to the Classic Short Boots; they are very Eskimo-like. I mean, when you think of an Eskimo in an igloo, there is a common stereotypical vision of a big fur rimmed coat made of some kind of animal and the leather-ish looking lace up skin boots. The boot image is what comes to mind when trying to describe what UGGS look like. They have a yellow/brownish rubber sole and on the bottom there is a pattern of the word UGG and some crease lines. The boots have the sheepskin on the inside and the outside is sewn together and the stitches show. There is the distinctive UGGs Austrailia logo on the back of each heel so you know if they are real or phonies. The boot goes up a little lower than mid calf. Mine are chocolate brown but you can get all sorts of colours in this particular style, like light blue, pink, red, white and the tan are the most popular.
Tips On Wearing UGGS
1) Always wear your UGGS with bare feet. The unique material in the boot forms to your foot for maximum comfort.
2) Always buy your UGGS one size smaller than you would normally buy. They run big. Buy them smaller so that they will mold to your feet for comfort.
3) Be sure to buy some kind of care product for your UGGS and make sure they are treated before wearing them outside. You dont want them to get marked up prematurely! Ask the person you buy them from to recommend a treatment because there are so many different ones out there.
4) Dont wear your UGGS on the ice. Although they are very warm, they do not have a great grip and Ive slipped on the ice and fell on my butt a couple of times now.
5) Wear them absolutely with anything. Shorts, bathing suits, jeans. Tuck your jeans into them or roll your jeans over them. Roll down your UGGS if you want. Be trendy!
How Do They Feel?
I can honestly tell anyone who is reading this that the UGG Classic Short Boots are the most comfortable boots/shoes Ive ever worn. These wonderful warm slip-ons mold to my bare feet. They are so light it feels as though I am wearing a nice warm pair of socks. Ive been in two snow storms wearing these boots and theyve never had any kind of water soak through. They are trendy and stylish (although still ugly), and I am going to buy another pair as soon as I can.
My UGGS cost $119 and they were purchased at Nordstroms in Overland Park, Kansas.
Definitely 5 stars
