Author's Review
Every morning, you can hear the toaster in use. With two kids who are almost total opposites you can find the toaster filled with different things from varieties of bread, both room temperature and frozen items, and well, if it fits in the darned thing, then it goes in the Toastmaster 4 Slice!
Over the years I have had this product, I am continually amazed at the durability and reliability of this toaster through multi-daily use. Not only does it NOT burn anything at all (unless you really JAM something in there intentionally), but it seems that almost everything that comes out of the toaster is picture perfect.
It Does Everything!
Over the years that I have owned the Toastmaster 4 Slice Dual Control Toaster, we have cooked the following things in the toaster without problems: sandwich bread, wide sliced stone ground white, poptarts, toaster strudel, waffles, bagels, and really almost everything that you could think that is "advertised" as going inside the toaster.
Using the toaster is very simple. I've even taught my autistic child to use this product years ago, and he's really the main operator of the device on most mornings as he makes his own breakfast now.
The toaster has four slices. There are two controls on the toaster where you can set each two slot side for varying degrees of browning or thawing of the product. That may sound confusing, but it really isn't. Over each of the slots are the settings that you can set the toaster. These vary from 1 to 5 depending on the "brownness" of the item you are cooking, but above that are the settings to show whether or not the product is frozen or not. You just set each side for the type of product and off you go, easy!
Since there are two different controls for each two slice slot, you can actually cook something frozen in two slots and regular bread in the other two slots. This is very handy when one of my kids wants waffles and the other wants toast.
Each of the slots is wide enough to take a rather thick pastry. We eat a lot of bagels, and when the bagels are cut uniformly, we have never had any problem with putting this product in the toaster, having it toast, and then any "jamming" in the product. Each time the toaster performs flawlessly.
At times when we have put an uneven bagel in the toaster and it did jam a bit, this was not a problem. By pushing the lever upward, the product was able to be dislodged without a problem. This also was great when a piece of bread rather "slumped" within the toaster and lost some of its tall shape. Nothing we have toasted in this product has ever totally jammed over the years we have used it.
In addition, I have to mention that the toaster does not give excess heat on the outside or even top of the product. I don't have to worry about anyone getting burned. That's part of the reason I trust my son with this product also.
Drawbacks
The main drawback that I have had with the Toastmaster 4 Slice Dual Control toaster is that over time the chrome at the top (where the slots are) will start to look dingy. Even with the regular cleaning I gave this device, this began to do this. But you must remember that our toaster is used at least three times a day seven days a week for at least seven years now, so some kind of wear is to be expected over that period of time.
The other thing that I do not like about this toaster is that the crumb tray is hard to clean. I would like to have run this bottom part through my dishwasher, but it is attached to the toaster and I can not do that.
Recommendation
The ToastMaster 4 Slice Dual Control Taster is the most incredible one that I have owned in the past twenty-five years. It has outlasted Sunbeam and GE toasters with its incredibily flexibility and reliability and continues to impress me each time we use it.
If you are looking for an all around great toaster, then I encourage you to take a look at the Toastmaster 4 Slice Dual Control toaster. I believe you will enjoy it as much as I have.
