This game is ill

It seems like only yesterday I was sitting totally engrossed over the keyboard of my 286, staring at it's EGA screen, shifting up gears in my Porshe 911 in Test Drive 1.

Now I'm racing in a 98 Vette through Paris on my Dreamcast, with an automatic transmission. (COuldn't get the hang of manual in TD6)

Back then it was all about the black road, the scared truck drivers whiping by on the left, and the bright red wall to the right and sharp cliff to the left, going straight.

The Vette appears to be at least 20 or so polygons, and the whole world really shows off the Dreamcast's chip. The courses look fantastic, though there wasn't much thought put into cop cars... The courses allow for splits into multiple paths, so straight isn't necessarily fastest, and some times shortcuts aren't as short as one thinks. The obstacles and other drivers make for lots of fun to avoid. And of course the old version gets beat out; no more racing the clock so you won't get made fun of at the gas station, there's moving competition!

Just like in the old game, cops try and pull you over, and you just downshift and burn em. Some things never change, though I dig the rock soundtrack compared to the droning buzz from the PC speaker that's supposed to be your huge engine on the old version.

All in all, the game far surpasses TD1.

But in all seriousness, I really liked this game. Remember to get a memory card, though, as saving is very important. I didn't try out multiplayer; I didn't even check if there was. Single-player is excellent though, the soundtrack is fantastic, the selection of cars is good, but it lacks the realism of Grand Turismo.
