Author's Review
Having raised three daughters, I can positively tell you that teen girls are into fashion 100%. They know the latest styles, what's hot and what's not. The teenage years are all about finding yourself and discovering who you are. Teens want to fit in. And fashions is a big part of being accepted into the "in" crowd these days, whether we like it or not. In fact, it's been that way for years. The "in" crowd end up being the leaders and all the others try to be just like them. It's life and a big part of teenage life. Fashions not only help build good self esteem, but also help a young lady discover her "specific" style of clothing that matches her personality. Teen Vogue Magazine is a magazine just for teens and it focuses on teen fashions. I'm sure you remember flipping through Vogue magazine at some point in your life. Teen Vogue Magazine is the version for the younger generation of teens.
Teen Vogue Magazine
Teen Vogue is a monthly magazine that contains around 260 pages per issue. It's not the typical 8.5" x 11" size magazine but cut down to a smaller size around 7" x 10". The smaller size is nice is some ways and not in others. While it is a space saver if you keep magazines for future reference, when you want to see a full size picture, you are not really getting a full size because of the smaller size pages. This can make details on accessories especially hard to get a good idea of what they look like.
Teen Vogue Magazine is the fashion bible for teens. It contains page after page of advertisements from companies wanting to pull in more customers in the teenage age range shopping for new prom dresses, jeans, shoes, purses, jewelry, dresses, tops, etc. You will also find ads for cosmetics, perfumes, and some high-end designers.
You will also find numerous articles in each issue relating not only to fashion but everyday life and issues of teens. Topics may be about health, weight loss, hair styles, beauty routines, or about a real-life model telling her story of how she got into the fashion business.
Current subscription rates are two years for $10.00. I'm not sure what the newsstand price per issue is because I subscribe to this magazine.
My Thoughts On Teen Vogue
Overall, I like this magazine and the concept of it. It has some nice articles that make the magazine more balanced and not just a magazine to thumb through and look at the pictures of new fashions.
There are a few things that I do not like about the magazine. The first is some of the ads are very unrealistic for teens. I've seen numerous designer ads for things that a teenager would not buy because they couldn't afford it. Some of the items are not even teen related. I can only assume the advertisers are trying to hack into the teen's parents by placing these ads. I know that I always looked through teen magazines before they were given to my girls for reading to see what the content was. In a recent issue, there was a handbag (that I really don't think a teen would use) featured in an ad. I looked the designer up on the internet to find that this handbag retailed for $345.00. This is not marketing towards most teens. There are very few that could afford a handbag like that or have a parent that would buy it for them. the same can be said for a teen buying a Ralph Lauren dress.
The other thing that bothers me about this magazine are some of the advertisements with models in sleezy clothing with super low cut fronts, or braless. To me, this just doesn't portray a good example for the way we want our responsible teems to dress. I wish they would only take ads from reputable companies that aren't trying to sell sex to our kids.
There are a lot of ads in Teen Vogue Magazine, but that is to be expected in a fashion magazine.
Recommendation
This is a nice fashion magazine, especially for older teens. I also think teens (or anyone else for that matter) interested in a design career, fashion modeling or current fashions would enjoy this magazine.
