Once two of the 4 slots on our old toaster would not work any more, I knew it was time for a new one. My wife and I were looking for a cost effective, 4 slot model. We wanted something flexible enough to handle bagels and buns as well as bread, easy to use and, for me, very easy to remove items that fall in between the slots.
I was attracted to this unit as Sunbeam is a well-regarded brand name. When I saw this for around $25 at my local Linens N Things, it was the obvious choice.
The unit has 4 slots, which are not only extra wide slots, they lift extra high, meaning there is less likelihood of bread or other items getting stuck. I HATE that.. The controls as to how much to toast independently control each group of two slots, meaning that all four slots can be in use but they do not have to have the same setting. . I was attracted by the cool touch (outside does not get hot during toasting) feature.
This unit has worked well with everyday use. The setting, like a mini oven dial, is responsive and consistent. I can get the unit to toast the way I want. There is a button to push when bagels are in the slots. This unit toasts bagels well. Better yet, there have been no jams or need for me to use the wooden tongs and try to fish out something that is stuck inside.
The unit has a crumb tray which keeps the counter clean. I empty it weekly.
This unit has been what I need. I dont need to pay a lot of money for digital readouts. What I need is to get bread and bagels toasted correctly, without a mess and without having to go in after a piece of something that has dropped.
This unit is well worth the money and I can recommend it at this price point.
