Product Review

a very good vehicle

by   mariner72 ,   Apr 2, 2007

Pros:  well engineered. economical. plenty of power. all wheel drive.

Cons:  Needs telescoping steering wheel.

The Bottom Line:  Highly recommend. Best value for money out there. High safety, driveability, economical. All wheel drive all the time, don't have to think about it.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I rented a car for a 2 day round trip from Cedar Rapids to MSP on business. They offered an 06 Forester so I took it. I had just bought a new 07 maybe 3 days before but had only 100 miles on it. This would give me a feel for it on a long trip.
Car had 20,000 on it but drove like new. Interior was pretty comfortable and I liked the seat side bolstering as it kept me in position under all conditions. Never really got tired except my accelerator foot so I used cruise on occasion. Thought the steering wheel was a little too far away, I'm 6 foot and 250 pounds so I sit back a little and have to extend my arms. Got used to it before long, though.
At 70+ with all windows down the buffeting was minimal, much better with just the left 2 windows down. Entering one on ramp I floored it and it shifted into high as I passed through 100. Excellent performance and smooth. No complaints with driving or power.
I flogged it all the way usually running 80+ on the interstate when I thought I could get away with it. No thought to conserving fuel but I got 26.85 mpg on the trip. Had a big headwind, too.
Car really handles well, steering is sharp and definitely goes where you point it. After getting my Dakota stuck several times this year in the Iowa blizzards I swore I would get an all wheel drive.
Have read negative comments on the Geolanders so I looked close at these, no abnormal wear and really looked like near new. Didn't look like 20k on them. Don't think I got a squeal out of them either.
Bought my 07 at invoice with 2,000 rebate and 1.9% financed for 2 years, 883 a month. Paid $19,577 for the car. I like it more each time I drive it. Glad I got it. Maybe the best all around car I ever bought.
