Author's Review
Most of todays movies are available on DVD and VHS, but if you already have a collection of VHS movies what do you do? It would be a costly undertaking to change over, so here is a unit that allows you to take advantage of DVD & VHS in one very affordable, very powerful component.
A great way to look at things is most of the time if you buy right, buying a combo unit will be less expensive than buying two pieces. The down side, is always if one portion fails, well then while it is being fixed you have neither. But this is not a real issue with this unit at all. I have found that it is of higher quality than most of its competitors even the higher priced models.
The SONY SLV-D300P Progressive scan DVD/VCR with an MSRP of $199.99 is veru fairly priced. Take into account a sale, or markdown and you can not go wrong! I would skip the extended warranty, I can not justify 50% of the cost of a unit to guarantee it for 5 years. That is just my opinion.
The more expensive Panasonic PVD-4752 just did not offer as many options as the Sony. When you get down to the Tech stuff at least, see below. Also the picture from the Sony on 2 diff TV sets was superior to the Panasonic as well as the Toshiba, and JVC. Yes I made the guys at the store crazy, it is a good thing they know me for so many years. It has become fun for all of us when I come into the store.
