SONY SLV-D300P you hardest working component just go better

by   justinsdaddy ,   Jul 24, 2003

Pros:  Quality, Price, Ease of Use!

Cons:  Nothing to make mention of

The Bottom Line:  Sony continues to set the mark, and waits for the others to catch up. This is another well done SONY item!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

Most of todays movies are available on DVD and VHS, but if you already have a collection of VHS movies what do you do? It would be a costly undertaking to change over, so here is a unit that allows you to take advantage of DVD & VHS in one very affordable, very powerful component.

A great way to look at things is most of the time if you buy right, buying a combo unit will be less expensive than buying two pieces. The down side, is always if one portion fails, well then while it is being fixed you have neither. But this is not a real issue with this unit at all. I have found that it is of higher quality than most of its competitors even the higher priced models.

The SONY SLV-D300P Progressive scan DVD/VCR with an MSRP of $199.99 is veru fairly priced. Take into account a sale, or markdown and you can not go wrong! I would skip the extended warranty, I can not justify 50% of the cost of a unit to guarantee it for 5 years. That is just my opinion.

The more expensive Panasonic PVD-4752 just did not offer as many options as the Sony. When you get down to the Tech stuff at least, see below. Also the picture from the Sony on 2 diff TV sets was superior to the Panasonic as well as the Toshiba, and JVC. Yes I made the guys at the store crazy, it is a good thing they know me for so many years. It has become fun for all of us when I come into the store.

Features

This particular machine has both a VCR and DVD/VCD player in a space flatter than a large VCR it is about average for most Audio/Video components and will fit into most cabinets.

The VCR is a 4-head stereo recorder with flash rewind, plug and play easy setup for the clock and tuner, also it includes an auto head cleaner. It also boasts a "Quasi" S-VHS playback, allowing for enhanced VHS resolution.

The DVD player supports DVD,DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW CD, VCD, SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 playback formats.

Other great things include progressive scan, frame by frame, slow frame, 2x play forward/reverse, screen zoom, virtual sound, and bookmarking.

Sound is digital audio, Dolby, surround, and dts. Output is in component video, composite RCA and S-video.

Also are convenient front mounted AV jacks, making it easy to plug in and watch the home video camera.

Multilingual in English, French, Spanish and Chinese. The remote control is multi-brand learning, and capable.

Best fo all, is it is HDTV Compatable for the newer HDTV TV sets!!
