Cons:
Picture quality without HDTV may be disappointing
The Bottom Line:
I would buy this set again and would consider the Sharp Aquos brand for future purchases. We have had good experiences with Sharp in the past.

This 42" Sharp Aquos HDTV was our first experience with HDTV. We have had it for 5 months and have thoroughly enjoyed the quality of the picture and features.
I don't recall seeing any programming in 1080p yet, but the 1080i programs (and even 480p and 480i) have wonderful clarity and contrast. Playback of DVD's with surround sound is also a great experience.
Viewing sports programs in HDTV mode is almost like being at the game. Picture definition is incredible, bringing a life-like experience. Hockey games are particularly entertaining and I'm looking forward to baseball season.
Viewers would be disappointed in watching TV programs on this set that are not in HD. Sports are especially tough to watch, since picture definition is somewhat diffuse.
There are many different hookup options, including two HDMI connectors, as well as component connections. Installation instructions between cable, DVD/VCR and the television are confusing, so attention must be paid to installation (professional help is advised).
The size of this unit was perfect for viewing from a couch or chair. Chances are that several remotes may be needed to handle cable, DVD/VCR/Sound, etc, although some remotes for other equipment may be able to turn this unit off and on (and vice-versa).
