HEY! Scooby!!
Date of Review: Oct 6, 2002
The Bottom Line: Fun game good for low stress gaming. Worth it if you are a Scooby Doo fan with fond memories of the cartoon. How could you go wrong?
Well, being a child of the Saturday Morning Cartoon era, (when there were no VCRs or nintendo) I naturally had to get my son the Scooby game. I was very impressed with how faithful to the original cartoon the graphics are, brings back a lot of memories.
THE STORY: On their way to investigate a mystery (of course!) the gang, except for Scooby Doo, disappears in a spooky mansion. So you, as Scooby, need to navigate your way through the various areas and find your friends. As you would expect, there are lots of ghosts, bats and general spookiness to go around, as well as Scooby Snacks !Some of the objects needed to help Scoob along are really funny, like the spring shoes and the lampshade on the head to "hide" from the monsters.
As I mentioned, the graphics and sounds are great; the main downfall is trying to move Scooby around. It sometimes takes too much precision to jump for the various objects you need to get, mainly the boxes of Scooby Snacks that help your life meter. However, with a bit of practice, you can easily get the hang of the controls. I also found some of the objects a bit hard to find, and the instructions given during the gameplay a bit vague for the younger kids.
But, besides those things, the main idea behind this game is the nostalgia factor, so don't expect an equivalent of some of the more sophisticated titles out there.
