Product Review

Saves Water, Detergent and Time

by   myboysmom ,   Sep 7, 2008

Pros:  Uses way less water
Dries so well needs less dryer time
SilverCare

Cons:  Water puddles inside door gasket
Condensation on door drips when open
Pathetic user manual

The Bottom Line:  Buy this Samsung 337. I had checked with my Repair service prior to purchase and they gave it a thumbs up. I am very happy with it.

Author's Review

I purchased this Samsung Silver Care series Washer in July 2008. Silver care shoots silver ions throughout your wash to get rid of something like 99.7% of germs...and it does this using COLD water. (You can turn silver on or off depending on what type of load you're doing.) Samsung brand received the JD Powers award for washer/dryers.

I love my new washer for many reasons:
Water Savings - better for my septic system.....this FRONT loader uses only 12 gallons of water - compared to my old TOP loader which used at least 25 gallons during the washing and rinsing cycles. Electricity and Natural Gas Savings (dryer).....This machine has a really high rpm for spinning the clothes dry...they come out so dry that I'm using way less dryer time. It is Energy Star-rated so I save on my electric bill and I received a rebate. It is quiet...only thing you hear is the water being added and being pumped out and sometimes a little washing, but compared to top loader, this one is by far quieter. It is stackable with the dryer on top so I have extra space in my laundry room now (something the Miele can't do).
Better for Environment....washer uses very little detergent....1/8 cup at the most...you must use a High Energy (HE) detergent but you need so little of it. Can add a sock or shirt or more if you forget to put it in B4 starting the machine.
Cold Water Germ Killing....as I said up top, you don't need super heated hot water to sanitize your clothes. I use it for whites, for sweaty workout/sports clothes, and although I hope not to need for this reason: to sanitize after someone's had a stomach virus. point here is that you don't have to heat your water ($savings) in order to do a sanitized wash. I don't use a lot of bleach anymore....because Silver Care kills germs, but I still wanted my whites to be brighter so I use 1/4 cup only now.The clothes come out smelling and looking better than having been immersed in dirty water like they were in top loader. It holds so many clothes that I find I do less loads and therefore spend less time in the laundry room!

OK there are some things that aren't perfect: the condensation from door drips onto floor - no big deal I just wipe it down. Water puddles inside the door and unless you sop it up and leave door open you may get that mildew smell I've heard about.

The only problem I've had with this machine is the poorly written users manual. I don't know what language it was translated from but between that and the alleged quick reference guide don't try to get any help there. If I were Samsung I'd be pretty embarrassed by them. Luckily you really don't need them - everything is straight forward.

Also If you were to get the matching dryer and plan on stacking it like I did, have them order the dryer with the door opening to the same side the washer does (left).

On last thought, this washer has a lot of preprogrammed cycles. Many of which you won't use. I have determined pretty early on the ones that suit me and I ignore the others. Some add quite a bit of time that I don't feel is necessary.
