My husband and I were on vacation last week when our fairly new $160 Canon PowerShot digital camera stopped working. Two days into our ten day trip we decided to buy the cheapest digital camera we could find. That being said, we chose the Samsung S860. It is about 4" x 3", the average camera size, not very heavy, and requires 2 AA batteries.
I agree with one reviewer that this is an entry level camera. If you are looking for a camera that takes high quality pictures, this is not for you. I was able to use the same flash card (memory chip where your photos are stored) when I switched cameras. As a result I was able to closely compare the picture quality between both pictures when I downloaded them to my computer. I found that the Samsung camera photos were much more grainy than I had expected when flash was not used. They looked okay at first on the camera viewing screen but on a computer you can definitely see the grainy texture.
I would recommend this camera if you are looking for an inexpensive camera. If you are also looking for a camera may sustain some wear and tear this might be right for you, just remember that it takes slightly below average pictures.
Some more information on this camera...You can also capture video on this camera. One feature that is missing from my old digital cameras is the action setting, which is a feature designed to take pictures of objects in motion. Also this camera does not appear to take multiple pictures in sequence. There is a timer and there is a place at the bottom of the camera where you can insert a photo stand. This camera is fairly user friendly, it took me a few minutes to figure out how to delete pictures and switch from viewing pictures to taking pictures mode. Once you have that down you can slowly learn more of the camera's features and functions. Also the camera comes with a USB cord so you can hook it up to the computer and if you are a regular computer user you should be able to figure out how to download the pictures, it works just like any other digital camera and you don't need to load any software onto your computer.
I will probably end up buying a higher end camera and keep this one for situations when I might not want to have a nicer camera with me. I recommend it but do not set your expectations high!
