The Samsung DVDR-155 is a really good, well built & compact DVD recorder. This unit has HDMI output, S-Video Input, and Component Out as well. The Unit is really nice to use, easy to set up, records from your Set Box (cable or Sat) and does a great job. Records onto -Minus discs (either -R or -RW) and loves Verbatim 8X or lower speeds. The new 16X works fine, but this is a stand alone recorder so it (and most other stand alone's prefer the lower speed rates) . It has an easy to set up menu, has a nice remote control and is certainly reliable long term. This all metal built unit is not cheaply made and performs better than many other units in its class. A true winner . Some complaints made against this unit seems to be the user didnt' take the time to familiarize themselves with the operations of the system or read the manual. Also, they may be using less compatible blank media. With all standalone Recorders, it is wise to use such brand names as Verbatim, Panasonic, Sony and Maxell. Stay clear from Memorex for any recordings (either Stand Alone units, or , computer DVD recorders) Other less known named Blank Media will have your Recorder having disc errors and poor recordings . Verbatim in particular prides themselves with having the best outer layer AZO dyes . The outer layer of the blank usually is where the disc error and playback freeze's begin. Buy quality discs, with this quality recorder and you will be a happy camper.
