Product Review

Made air travel easier with twins

by   pallal ,   Mar 20, 2007

Pros:  Convenient. Minimizes time spent setting up strollers and car seats.

Cons:  Awkward placement of seat belt over child when attached to the car or plane seat.

The Bottom Line:  Good for travel when travelling alone with child or you have more than one child. If traveling with 2 adults and one child, it's not really necessary.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

Our family lives on the other side of the country, so it's at least a 4 hour flight to get there. If we have a connection, it's about an 8 hour trip total. We tried this first when our twins were 9months old. It was a nightmare. Trying to carry 2 car seats and push 2 strollers and carry our carry-on bags....it was nearly impossible. My husband looked like a pack mule! Also, trying to set up or disassemble the strollers each time we boarded or unboarded the plan was a huge pain. We blocked traffic just trying to deal with the strollers. After that trip we decided we needed a better way to travel. Then we found the Sit N Stroll strollers. They made our travels so much easier! No longer did we need to worry about setting up strollers and carrying car seats. We breezed through the airport, pushing the kids in their seats and when we boarded, we just tucked in the wheels and kept on going to our seats. NO need to stop and monkey with anything. THey even had a place to store some small items in the back. I even managed to fly by myself and the twins once when they were 18months old. It was still a stressful journey, but would have been impossible if not for these neat Sit N Stroll seats.
Now for the negatives. The seats don't fit well in the airplane seats. THe seat belt buckle rests right at the edge of the carseat, so it's really hard to buckle it securely into the seat. Plus, it goes right over the child's abdomen, or chest for a small child. They either have to put their little arms under the belt and be trapped, or awkwardly over it. It really is in an awkward place for a belt. For a car seat that is designed specifically for airplane travel, I can't understand why they would have designed them this way. We tried getting an oversized belt to attach to the plane seat, but it didn't work either. So we managed to buckle the seats in, but they were not ideal during the flight. Also, if the kid wants out, you have to unbuckle the seat belt each time, leaving the seat unattached. Similar problems arose when we buckled them into the car. You have to attach them each time to the seat AND you have to do this with the child IN the seat at the same time. The car belt goes OVER the car seat AND the child at the same time.
On the plus side, it is a comfortable seat and very convenient. I certainly wouldn't want to use this carseat every day, but for travel it was worth it for us. If we only had 1 child though, I think we would have done better with just a regular car seat that wasn't too heavy to carry as long as we had both parents traveling with the child. For a parent that travels alone with the child often, this Sit N Stroll seat would be very helpful.
