Rolling Stone Rocks & Rolls

Date of Review:  Oct 23, 2000
The Bottom Line: I really liked Rolling Stone. I found it eclectic enough to not bore me and I highly recommend it.
Review: I got Rolling Stone magazine as a free year-long subscription as part of a promotion. Surprisingly, although I love music, I don?t believe I had ever looked at it before. I had no idea what to expect but I figured it would be a change from the...

A shell of it's former self...Rolling Stone Magazine

Date of Review:  Aug 13, 2006
The Bottom Line: A good magazine that has gone south over the last few years.
Review: About 3 years ago, I began receiving issues of this magazine in the mail. I had no idea where they were coming from and I never received a bill so I didn't complain. I just assumed that I had signed up for some trial thing on the internet somewhere...

Rolling Stone? More like ... Sluggish Pebble

Date of Review:  Jun 30, 2001
The Bottom Line: What was once the front runner in music coverage - Rolling Stone has slipped to the bottom of the entertainment food chain faster than Milli Vannilli's career.
Review: Rolling Stone, once the media mecca of music madness has gone soft. Maybe it needs some Viagra or a daily vitamin, but this Freak things even hard-core steroids can?t bring this puppy back from the land of Muzak, pop goddesses and felonious Eminem...

Back in the Saddle Again with Rolling Stone

Date of Review:  Apr 1, 2009
The Bottom Line: This is a fine magazine to read, so that you can keep up with all of the bands, and find new ones that you'll like.
Review: Rolling Stone has always been a magazine that I subscribed to, because I love reading periodicals that can combine news, music, and style. This magazine's history is amazing, as they've had so many famous covers and articles over the years, and I...

Plight of the Formerly Relevant

Date of Review:  Dec 11, 2007
The Bottom Line: Hunter Thompson is dead and P.J. O'Rourke is too smart for today's Rolling Stone.
Review: I can remember being in high school and looking forward to new issues of Rolling Stone. They would have informative articles and I always liked their reviews on new releases. It seemed like a magazine that was really tuned in to rock and roll...

Rolling Stone Doesn't Know Squat About Music

Date of Review:  Apr 4, 2004
The Bottom Line: The essence of a music mag is music, and Rolling Stone doesn't know music. Don't even get me started on the mag's politics.
Review: And here's why:

For starters, Rolling Stone has been around since about the late '60's and, since then, has built itself into the MTV of music mags-or, at least what purport to be music mags. It's really more of a pop culture mag, with an...

Conflict of Interest Digest

Date of Review:  Jan 19, 2004
The Bottom Line: By trying to remain credible by trashing pop artists while trying to sell magazines by featuring them, Rolling Stone has lost all credibility. They've become a joke.
Review: I'd like to start with a few statistics from a recent issue:

Total Pages: 100
Total Pages of Ads: 55
Total Pages Related to Music: 26
Total Pages Not Related to Music: 74

I thought it was about rock

Date of Review:  May 9, 2000
Review: I'm not against rap or other types of music, it just seems that a magazine called Rolling Stone should be about Rock and Roll. Not Rap, not boy bands, or the latest made-for-pedophile pop star.

The trend towards pop really has me...

A Rolling Stone Gathering Moss

Date of Review:  Jan 20, 2000
Review: I used to read Rolling Stone, I used to subscribe, I used to roll around naked on its pages...ok, I didn't do that. But if I were so inclined to roll around naked on a high-quality, subversive, intelligent magazine it would no longer be Rolling...

What happened to the RS I used to know and love?

Date of Review:  Apr 15, 2000
Review: There was a time when I was actually a subscriber to Rolling Stone... many years ago. While the subscription rate is always a great deal, I passed it up long ago and rarely read Rolling Stone, here's why.
1) Ads: There are TONS of them. I feel...
