Pros:
Inexpensive.
Cons:
Poor quality of the components makes this fairly worthless.
The Bottom Line:
The Remington TLG-100 Men's Travel Grooming Kit is probably one of the worst made products I've seen from Remington.

Author's Review
About a year ago I received a mens grooming travel kit as a gift. It seems I get these about once every few years. Gee, now that I think about it I wonder if that means I look like someone who uses them or needs to use one. Anyway, most of the ones I receive end up stored under the guest bath sink. A few, like a rather unusual shoehorn/grooming set combo, get re-gifted. Oops, did I just type that?
About a week ago my wife managed to get a splinter under her fingernail and I couldnt find a pair of tweezers to try and get it out. I started digging around under the guest bath sink and what should I find but the grooming kit I was given. Inside was a pair of tweezers that I used to remove the offending sliver of wood. Then I got to thinking, here is a perfect item to play around with and write a review. So here we are.
The Grooming Kit
The Remington Precision Deluxe Grooming Travel Kit - TLG-100 is a 14 piece (excluding the case) mens grooming kit that comes in a black zippered case. Closed the case measures approximately 7.25 x 4.25 x 1.5. Inside the case the various grooming aids are held in place by elastic bands. The interior of the case is lined with a soft felt-like material. The kit contains most of the items, beyond toiletries, that a man might need to stay well groomed when travelling.
Kit Contents
- Nail Clippers
The nail clippers are of the very small, pointy fingernail variety. All three of us have tried them out and we found them to be sharp enough, but I had difficulty holding them because they are so small. I did a side by side comparison with a more substantial pair of fingernail clippers from Tweezerman and found that the Tweezerman clippers are much easier to hold and use. Lengthwise there is only an eighth of an inch difference in favor of the Tweezerman clippers, but the design is far less pointed making them much more substantial to grip.

- Tweezers
The tweezers feature something I very much appreciate which is an angle at the end used to grasp whatever needs to be pulled out. This has already proved useful with my wifes splinter.
Rating: 7/10
- Nail File
The nail file is one of those pocket knife styles popular with mens grooming kits. It features a knife, the nail file, and a combo flat head screwdriver tip and bottle opener. I should give it 10/10 for having the bottle opener which is often an item that would come in handy during vacation travel. The knife is sharp and would be useful for cutting of tags and stray threads. The nail file, being a metal variety, is the worst kind for nails doing more damage than good.
Rating: 0/10 for the nail file, 10/10 for the bottle opener
- Moustache Comb
The mustache comb is probably one of the most useful items in the kit. Well, aside from the bottle opener. Uhm, and only for guys with mustaches. When Ive had a mustache in the past the biggest pain in the neck was finding mustache combs. Youd figure every pharmacy would carry them, but at least when I had a mustache they didnt. This comb has an angled handle which would make combing easier.

- Hair Comb
The hair comb is a pretty cheap plastic comb. I tend to use a brush and with a comb like this its no wonder. The ends of the comb teeth are really sharp and I could feel them raking into my scalp. Id rather pony up a bit more money for an Ace comb.

- Scissors
Like the mustache comb the scissors would be very useful to anyone with a mustache. Would be except for one problem, the scissors feature a curved cutting edge which makes it awkward to trim a mustache evenly. I suppose they would be good for trimming nails, but then again the kit already has nail clippers. On the positive side they are stainless steel and are sharp.

- Toothbrush
The toothbrush is a travel style where the brush comes in two pieces with the top fitting into the bottom which doubles as a case. The bottom has an opening to allow the wet brush to drain. This is a useful item if you forget to bring your own toothbrush but I wouldnt want to use it as my primary toothbrush because the nylon bristles are very stiff. It is a little like brushing your teeth with one of those wire brushes used for cleaning metal.

- PG-100 Personal Groomer
The PG-100 personal groomer is a battery operated electric trimmer that can be used to trim mustaches, beards, sideburns, etc. It, along with its attachments takes up one side of the kit and Im sure it is supposed to be the center piece of this kit. It is also a piece of junk.
The groomer proved useful for one thing only which I will discuss in a moment. It takes two AAA batteries and features a rubberized on/off switch for better gripping with wet hands. The battery compartment has a rubber o-ring to help seal it from water. Sound good? Well, the o-ring that is supposed to seal it off from water on our groomer was not a complete ring but a flimsy strip of rubber that kept getting caught when I tried to close the cap. The worst part about the groomer is that the attached neck and sideburn attachment is fairly useless at cutting hair. Mostly what it did was to pull the hair on my face.

- 2 Guide Combs
The two guide combs are intended to allow you to set the cutting height much like professional hair care products. Except that these are of cheap quality.
- Nose & Ear Attachment
This is probably the only feature of the PG-100 that worked well in as far as cutting is concerned. Unfortunately unlike higher end nose and ear hair trimmers like the Sharper Image Turbo-Groomer Cobalt that is designed to cut the hairs without cutting the skin, the PG-100s attachment has an exposed cutting blade that very easily slices into flesh. I tried it once and ended up with a nice stinging cut in my nose.
Rating: 2/10
- Neckline & Sideburn Attachment
As I mentioned above this attachment does better as yanking out facial hair by the roots than it does trimming. Its kind of like an Epilady for men. But, I for one dont really want to use an Epilady on my face. Or any other part of my body for that matter.
Rating: 1/10
- Cleaning Brush
This small brush is used to clean the cutting heads of the two trimmers.
- Lubricating Oil
Inside the little plastic pouch that holds all of the PG-100s accessories is some lubricating oil in a small bottle plastered with hazardous material warnings. This I did not use, nor do I plan on finding out what it does.
Final Thoughts
The concept of this travel kit is very good. They included a wide variety of potential necessities in a small case. Unfortunately the components are all poor quality for the most part and few are things I would use as a result. I tried everything out to do the review but in the end Im throwing all but a couple of the items out. I certainly would not spend $30 on this for myself or someone else.
