Our children receive two different magazine subscriptions here at our home. KIDS Discover and Ranger Rick. (I wrote an article earlier on KIDS Discovery if you are interested in taking a look. It is a very good and educational magazine as well.)

Ranger Rick who is put out by the National Wildlife Federation is targeted at the age group 7- 12 years old. (The National Wildlife Federation also puts out two other magazines. One geared for the 3 - 6 year old age group and the other for the 12 months to 3 year old age group. "Your Big Backyard" which is full of animals and fun-to-do activities for your 3-6 year old and "Wild Animal baby" which is filled with pictures of cute and cuddly wildlife for your 1 to 3 year old. I haven't personaly tried either of these, but if they are half as good as Ranger Rick, I bet they are wonderful too.)

What the Magazine Contains in it-
Each month you will receive your Ranger Rick that is filled with information and facts on different animals and wildlife species. Ranger Rick takes you along and Vividly (through photos) show you these animals and brings you into their world and habitats. With adding a bit of jokes and outside humor, this magazine is sure to be a big hit with your little one.

Ranger Rick's Adventure-
My son's favorite section of this magazine is the Ranger Rick's Adventure comic strip that comes in each issue. Ranger Rick (The magazine's mascot, I guess you would call it) is a witty raccoon and takes you on a leaning adventure in each issue in a comic book setting. It is really cute, my son loves it.

Dear Ranger Rick?
In each issue, there is a section called "Dear Ranger Rick, Whatcha Think?" Where readers can write in and ask a question to Ranger Rick. The information and address on where to write is located on this page.

Reader Riddles
Reader Riddles is another section allotted in the Ranger Rick Magazine. This page is full of riddles that children (just like yours) send in each month to appear on this page. An address is given if your child would like to send in a riddle of his/her own to be published. This is just a fun little addition. (Sometimes they even add cool recipes that are fun and easy to make.)

Each month you will be visited by a new topic of animals or insects and information that delves into their way of life, they way the coexist, the way they eat, sleep and defend themselves as well as be able to see through the many Vivid pictures what the different animals and species look like.

Overall, I have been very impressed with what Ranger Rick Magazine has to offer to my children. They have learned so much about wildlife through these books and they look forward to getting their new monthly issue each month.

I highly recommend these magazines for those of you who would like to introduce nature and wildlife to your children in a fun, interesting and easily understood way. I know that we will be getting Ranger Rick Magazine for some time to come. I am proud to have them as part of our Children's magazine collection.
