by   caithnessfan ,   May 28, 2001

Pros:  Fast, lid compartment for melting butter Easy to clean.

Cons:  No on off switch, must be constantly overseen while on

The Bottom Line:  Inexpensive, easy to use, and fast working. Makes pop corn in about 2 min and easy to clean.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I recently got on the scales and immediately determined
that they were LYING.

While talking with one of the guys in my shop he mentioned
that something that helped him lose weight recently was
eating air popped pop corn for snacks and off and on
throughout the day to give his body something to work on
and keep his metabolism up.

I went out after work and started shopping about for a hot
air popper.

There were several to chose from, Proctor Silex, and a
couple of generic ones besides this one.
(Presto PopLite Popcorn Popper 4820)

The main thing that made me decide on this one over the
others besides name recognition, was the price.)
It was regular price at $14.95 and I was told by the ever
SO helpful cashier that I'd JUST missed it being on sale
for $11.95 by a day.

After I got it home I opened up the box and removed the
plastic and cardboard packing materials and got down to
work with it.

The cup that covers the opening serves 3 purposes.
1. It keeps the pop corn from flying out as it pops.
2. It is a measure for the max amount of pop corn that
you should use in a batch.
3. It is a butter melter. Put the solid butter in the
area and replace the lid/cup while popping the corn. As
the heat rises it melts the butter nicely with no worry
about scorching or burning it.

The pop corn was done in about 2 min. for a 1/4 cup batch of up cooked kernels. (I didn't melt any butter since I was trying to keep it somewhat good for me.)

It heated up right away almost as soon as it was plugged in.

The down side to this is that there is no on/off switch or
buttons. To turn it on, plug it in. To turn it off,
unplug it. This DOES however make the eas of use extremely
good, no 10 pound user's manual in 12 languages required
here.

the top part is made of a see through yellow plastic and
the base is white and black plastic. It seems fairly
sturdy as far as it goes but I don't think that it would
handle more than 1 or 2 falls from the counter top onto a
hard floor very well.

I've only had this product for about 3 weeks so I can't
vouch for it's durability or use life at the moment other
than the mention made above.

As for ease of cleaning, it's a breeze so far.
Remove the lid and shake out the remaining un-popped
kernels and you are done. If you use the lid for melting
butter it takes a whole 30 seconds more. Remove lid,
Pass under warm-hot water, wipe out with towel/rag,
replace.

If you get butter splashed on the main unit then you can
simply wipe it down with a paper towel or dish rag and you
are done.
