ORVILLE REDENBACHER'S POPCORN MAKER~~Ready for Popcorn?

One of my all time favorite snacks is popcorn. I have always made it in a conventional pot on the stove with plenty of oil, butter, and salt. But over the years, I have tried to become more health conscious, of course that doesn't work too often.

About the Orville Popper
It is really simple to use. Just add the popcorn, the manual says half a cup. Then turn it on. The unit heats up and within a few minutes, you have fresh, hot popcorn blowing out the spout. There is a small butter melter, but I rarely use this. I tend to heat up my butter in the microwave, then pour it on my popcorn.

This is a really healthy way to eat popcorn. We all know that popcorn itself has very little fat, if you don't add all the oil and butter. It is also much easier to use this popper as opposed to cooking it on the stove.

Virtually every kernel pops in the Orville popper and it doesn't burn like it does on the stove.

Cleaning is really easy. Just take off the top of the popper and wash it in some warm, soapy water. It is also dishwasher safe and I have placed it in there several times. Since I don't use the butter melter and there is no oil used in the popper itself, the top doesn't get very dirty. Most of the time, I use it more than once before I actually clean it.

The popper is quite compact and very lightweight. It sits on my counter, out of the way, ready to be used. Our usual night time ritual is popcorn and TV before bed.

The only thing that I don't like about the air popper is that the popcorn doesn't taste as good as it does when I fix it on the stove, but that has nothing to do with the popper...I really love oil on my popcorn, so usually I toss the popcorn with a little olive oil, then butter after it is already cooked. I don't use as much this way as when I cooked it on the stove, so the fat and calories are still reduced.

One other thing to mention is the fact that the top of the popper gets really hot, especially if you make more than one batch of popcorn. The air coming out is extremely hot and you must be careful not to get burned.

I bought this popper at my local Wal-Mart store for under $20. I have had it for nearly 2 years now and it has held up perfectly.
