I bought these headphones at walmart for $10 because I was having so much trouble with my $50
Sony Fontopia® MDR-EX81LP/B Consumer Headphones with the sound dying in one side after sweating a few minutes in the gym.
These are amazing! The 16-ohm Impedance means they'll get much louder than 32-ohm headphones and the 108db sensitivity also allows them to get louder (higher number is better). They're almost too loud, I worry about my hearing when I turn it all the way up since these are so much louder than my last headphones.
The bass and treble sound good but I don't play with those too much, I usually just play music thru the iPod at default settings.
The inner ear design is comfortable and doesn't fall out easily. The foam covers over the ear pieces help keep sweat from clogging the speakers too.
I like that they're split headphones too like headphones use to be 15 years ago. Instead of just one wire that goes from the portable player to one side of the headphone and another single wire that goes from one side of the headphone to the other side, this has two wires that are bound together that leave the portable player and go to each side of the headphones. I never liked having short cord going to the other headphone hanging behind my head or underneath my chin, i like this design much better and I'm glad it's back and it's cheap!
The only real downside is the short cord. The cord is 1 meter or 3.28 feet (~39 inches). The cord for the
Sony Fontopia® MDR-EX81LP/B Consumer Headphones was 3.94 feet. That extra 0.66 feet (almost 8 inches) apparently makes all the difference in the world. I'm 6 foot and the cord is too short to reach from the iPod in my pocket to my ears. Now if I clip it my waist it's fine, but it's just maybe 2-3" inches too short to really be able to sit comfortably in my pocket. Actually it'll reach, but if I turn my head or something it yanks on the iPod.
The short cord isn't that big of a deal though because I bought these primarily for running when I'm sweating a lot and I usually hold the iPod in my hand anyway so it's long enough for that but I don't think I'd be able to use them while I lift weights because the iPod's usually in my pocket then. That's fine though because I don't sweat when I'm lifting weights but now I have to have two headphones.
Can't beat the price though, $10! If the cord was a few inches longer these would be the perfect headphones.
