a great attachment parenting accessory

I have used the Baby Bjorn carrier for both my first and second children. I plan to do so with my third, due in May, as well.

I found the carrier to be very easy to use. The adjustments are a little cumbersome at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is easier. Also, we found that adjusting it while wearing it but without the baby in it was the best way to make sure that the fit was most comfortable.

Compared to other carriers, I found the following to be best with Baby Bjorn:
-The fabric is not "sweaty-making" - it wicks away moisture and leaves very little places for you to get those unsightly perspiration spots
-The shoulder straps are actually very comfortable even for long walks - I had virtually no shoulder pain, even after going on long hikes in the Rocky Mountains with both babies weighing over 15 pounds at the time
-The carrier can be used almost from baby's first day because it supports the head so well. My babies both loved to be facing my chest and cocooned in safely - the back would go up above their heads a little, but the safety straps over the legs made me feel that they were totally safe and secure
-The carrier fits tightly enough that I was confident to do workouts in the gym with my baby attached to me, even though this is not something Baby Bjorn markets as a possibility. I could do free weights, the treadmill, the elliptical, and several weight machines without my babies even waking up.

The things I didn't particularly like about the Baby Bjorn carrier:
-Once your baby is old enough to face out, it works well to have them on the front, but the carrier is very uncomfortable if you put the baby on your back. We never ended up using it as a back carrier because the babies' heads never came above my shoulders even with multiple adjustments - and what baby wants to look at mom's sweaty back during a hike in the mountains?
-The carrier would probably not be suitable for "chunky" babies. Mine are both average sized and very tall for their ages, but they both fit quite snugly. If they had been chubbier, though, I think they would have been very uncomfortable.

A side note regarding front carriers - I have had diastasis recti with both of my babies and only recently discovered that wearing a front carrier without a support band around my middle actually made the gap in my abdomen WIDER. With my third child, I am planning on wearing a post-partum support belt only while I'm carrying the baby directly over my stomach, and I am confident that this will help the problem.
