Product Review

Excellent BP machine

by   flipnotica ,   Apr 13, 2006

Pros:  Automatic, battery AND AC Power, 90 measurement memory storage, irregular heartbeat detection and averaging.

Cons:  None found.

The Bottom Line:  After talking to a pharmacist and reading about it online, this was the unit I chose because of the features, reliability, and the price.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I had an old Omron HEM 431-C that kept erroring out so I recently bought this one after it was recommended by a pharmacist who told me that Omron makes top notch BP units and they are the world's #1 brand that is recommended by doctors and pharmacists. It meets AAMI standards as well as the International Protocol of the European Society of Hypertension. Many units meet only the AAMI protocol standards. During March, 2001, The British Medical Journal published the results of testing for home BP monitors. Of the 23 devices that were validated, only 5 were recommended. These 5 were all Omron units. This information can be found on www.omronhealthcare.com.

What I really like is the way it stores 90 readings with the date and time and averages the last three readings. Even though I didn't need it, I like the 9" to 17" cuff that is extra for several other units. I also like the choice I have in using either 4 "AA" batteries or the power adaptor that was also included. I really hate having to buy power adaptors and Omron gets my thumbs up for that.

Another nice feature is the unit's ability to detect an irregular heartbeat. I don't have problems with that yet and hopefully will not be able to test to see if that feature works, but it is good to know that it is there. I also didn't like having to pump up my old unit. I love the way this one automatically pumps up the cuff.

I also think this unit is built very well and I am confident that it will hold up to many more measurements. I was tempted to get one of the wrist units but I was told by the pharmacist that recommended Omron to me that the wrist units are not as accurate.
