Nikon EN-EL3e verses non Nikon

Date of Review: Nov 22, 2006

The Bottom Line:  I would buy Nikon assuming I can get it.
I found a non Nikon battery for my new D50 SLR. I have been switching back and forth between the Nikon EN-EL3e (25334) Battery and the Imenel3 7.4 volt 1700 mAh Li-ion that I bought online at B&H. It cost $10 less and was available as the Nikon were not at the time. (I notice there is a third option now at B&H.) I am a bit concerned with a non Nikon battery but needed a second one because the one that came with the D50 was not performing as Nikon stated. I gave it plenty of break in time (If there is such a thing) and charge time. I got maybe 300 to 500 shots and was being careful to not waste the battery in between shots. The flash was hardly a factor. Perhaps I got a less than perfect battery?

I have to say that I think the Imenel3 is a better performing battery than the Nikon that came with my D50.

All said I would still buy a Nikon brand over a non Nikon. I just feel safer. The savings are not enough for me to justify a non Nikon but its a shame to see Nikon not have to inventory to support the demands. I see in another review that this is not the first time Nikon has fallen short...
