Very basic, entry level phone

For someone who has never had a cell phone, or perhaps for a child, this phone would be OK. Anyone else might be disappointed with this Nokia model because of its lack of features. The previous reviewer covered it pretty well, but one thing he left out was the very slow response times when going through the menus. My 2610 came from AT&T and the menu response time was very slow. I looked at the identical phone at T-Mobile and response times were much faster. If you are the type that customizes your settings only once, you'll be OK, but for those who like to change ringtones and alert tones, it's too slow. Changing any settings requires going through many menu choices and button presses. Older Nokias I've used were much more user-friendly... I wonder what happened? The phone came with some decent ringtones from the factory, so I didn't feel the need to download any more. The screen quality is between fair and poor. My 5-year-old old Nokia 3595 had a much better screen. I had to set the contrast all the way to maximum to easily see what was on the washed-out screen. The voice quality is decent when in a good signal area. Contrary to what the previous reviewer said, you *can* use this phone in international markets (namely Central and South America). People usually think only of Europe and Asia, where you can't use this phone because of band differences. This phone uses a locking technique known as ASIC 11, and apparently no one yet has figured out a way to unlock this model by using one of the free online code generators. As of now, you need to mail the phone off to get it unlocked or beg someone at AT&T to give you the code. Telling them you're going to South America (where the phone can be used) might get you the code. Overall, I would not recommend this model, as it looks and feels a little cheap. Of course, you get what you pay for; refurbished models of this phone currently sell on the AT&T GoPhone site for just $9.99. I would personally spend $10-20 extra and get something nicer, but everyone has his own budget to consider.
