I've owned this Xterra for 6 months now and have to say I've found that it's the perfect SUV. True to it's history it's a rugged, real thing, not too fancy utility vehicle. The ride is much nicer than earlier Xterras but it's still quite the performer on the dirt trails. I have the Off Road model which I have taken off road to see what it's made of. The locking rear end has pulled me out of every jam- haven't had to tow strap it to another truck to get out of anything. For a factory out of the box SUV, it's amazing. I went on a 4x4 outing with a local Los Angeles area Jeep club and had the guys amazed. I was taunted a bit about having a 4x4 that was a little too pretty to be on these trails with them but after showing them what it could do without a lift kit and oversized tires like them, they gathered around to get a better look at her at the end of the trek. Go with the upgrade stereo- it's worth it. If you're into leather interiors, all the little bells and whistles, wood trim, accessories you may use once, and other useless things that wouldn't make a good outdoors trip any better, look for another SUV. This one is for the no frills enthusiast.
