Nikon Coolpix S550

I wanted an upgrade from my Kodak EasyShare digital camera> I wanted more megapixels that would yield better, sharper pictures and I wanted to maintain the ease of use that I had with the Kodak EasySare and I wanted reliability with product name recognition.  I surveyed the inventory at a local chain store and was attracted to the Nikon Coolpix S550.  I respected the Nikon name.  I liked the 10 megapixels and it looked easy to use.  I purchased the camera.  I came home and started to read the directions, by the way with a sense of dread, fearing that I could easily be in over my head.  The first step was to install the wrist band. That was easy. Then it said to put the enclosed battery into the enclosed battery charger and to charge the battery for 100 minutes. I was good to go, so far.  I marked the time when the charging would be completed. At that time, I removed the charger from the wall, removed the battery and inserted into the camera as directed by the instructions and pictures. It was easy. It said to make sure the camera is off before loading the battery. Then I was to turn the camera on. I pushed the minute button on top. However, the green light did not come on and the camera appeared dead. I called Nikon tech support. She said to recharge the battery. I did and still got the same "dead" result. This tech support said that I have a power supply/source problem. I did not want to go through reapiring a brand new camera, so I returned it to where I purchased it and got a full refund. The store was out of this camera. So, now I have to wait until they get one inj. But I also have to decide IF I really can trust this camera. It seems jinxed. Maybe this is a malfunctioning camera and I should try something else. I will have to decide.
