Nice toy but use with common sense.

I got the Navigon 2200T GPS as a Christmas present from my daughter.
Also this is my very first GPS.

The package comes with a quick start guide but no manual.
I guess for low cost and promoting green reasons. 
Using the Navigon 2200T is intuitive but I downloaded the manual from Navigon's website for additional information.

I wanted to play with my new toy right away but
I was not about to ditch my guests (being Christmas) so I charged the device for 5 minutes as suggested by the quick guide using my Radio Shack A/C to car adapter.

Then (since the weather was cold) I placed the device at the edge of a window and waited to see some satellites, then waited and waited.  Eventually enough satellites were obtained to define my position. 

This must have taken about 20 mins.

More on this later.  But since then I figured out on how to get my position defined within a few minutes.  You also need to know I live in a very wooded area.

Being Christmas season I used to Navigon 2200T to tell me how to get to locations I already knew - other relative's houses.

The 2200T was dead on in a few cases. In fact I learned a new shortcut on how to get back home. 

Highway-wise I was impressed by how the 2200T guides you on road forks and tells you clearly to bear left or right. This is valuable when you don't know the area.

BTW - the 2200T sometimes has an issue with the difference between turning left and bearing left.  I have not found a problem when going right.  Telling you to turn left <vs. bear left> can be confusing at times.  The visual picture is a lot clearer.

In one case <on the way back home>, the 2200T had us going in a circle.  I wondered what happened there.
Note the neighbourhood has very narrow streets.

I live On Long Island - NY.  There is a major road - the Long Island Expressway which some of us nickname the lie - meaning not expressway.

The device states using traffic information in making trip decision.
Going to work I have a choice of two major roads.
One day the 2200T suggested taking the LIE.
Since the circle event happened I became a little suspicious of the 2200T.  I didn't listen and used the other road.  I ended getting off and using local roads.

Another day I did listen - ended taking the highway the full way - cool!  I'll have to see if this is repeatable.

Note to first time users: 
The 20 min wait for start-up should be a one-time event. 
Don't use the standby turn-off feature as this could make the long wait repeatable.
Total power-up only takes a couple of minutes.

Also - Don't begin using the 2200T until your coordinates are defined.
For two emperical reasons:
1.  Enough satellites may not get captured to use device.
    This happened to me a few times.

2.  This only happened once.
    The position was off - this event was actually fun!
    I was driving west to east. For some reason the 2200T thought
    I was ~400 ft north of my actual position.
    I'm actually driving on the L.I.E, the 2200T had me driving through
    local roads, dead ends, through housesm, fields, etc.  This was quite entertaining.
    The device corrected itself once I got off the road and started heading north.

Altitude measurements vary +/- 60 ft for the same point.

The device is rather nice once you get past all the quirks.
