DISAPPOINTMENT IN ONE LETTER - Q

by   paularmstrong ,   Mar 3, 2007

Pros:  1. voice quality excellent 2. sync with outlook easy 3. small/compact

Cons:  1. Dials on its own 2. Hands free feature is not hands free

The Bottom Line:  Disappointed, yet I would buy it again compared to the other smart phones out there because of its size and ease of use. Just need to lock the keys.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

OK, so I didn't read the reviews here, I talked and talked and talked to people "in the know" The Q is supposed to be a "hot" smart phone, but I'm pretty disappointed.

The pros:
1. Voice quality on the phone is excellent.
2. The keypad is easy to use
3. Text messaging is easy
4. Sync took a little while to set up with my outlook, but it runs well.
5. It's kind of fun to use.

The cons:
1. It dials on its own! I can't tell you how many times it has redialed the last number dialed on its own, while safely tucked away in it's pretty leather case! And, I have mine set up for pay per use mobile web. Well, I have NO IDEA when the thing dialed into the web. No evidence on the phone itself that it went there, but Verizon is charging me $85 for web use in 10 days! I ended up blocking that feature.
2. The "hands free" feature isn't exactly hands free. You have to go to the start page, open the menu, scroll down to voice recognition, select that, and then you can say a command. So much for "hands free"

The pda features work just like I had expected. Anything that you can do in outlook syncs well (so far) and can be done on the handheld device. Obviously the display is going to be smaller than on your desktop or laptop, but it's readable. I haven't had any trouble with the backlighting or seeing outside either, but I mainly use it inside or in my car.

I haven't used the mobile Word, excel, or other office features.

I did try to download a Bible and use it but so far...no luck. I'm sure I'll eventually be able to use it.

Other than that, the phone works well, it's cute. I like that I don't have to carry around a pda/calendar, or other such device along with my cell phone...but the cons are going to be hard to get used to. I miss my old flip phone from LG. All you had to do was flip it open and say what you wanted to do. That was "hands free".

Another thing, don't buy from the cell phone retailers, go to wirefly.com. I got mine for $169 including a bluetooth headset, after rebates. Saved about $90 over getting it through Verizon and it was in hand, shipped to my home within 3 days.
