The perfect special occasion wine on a budget

Let me start by saying this is not a sparkling wine to make mimosas with. It’s not that it wouldn’t taste great, it’s just a waste because this wine is so good.

The first time I ever had Moet White Star was the first Christmas I spent with my now husband. He arrived at my house and announced it was his favorite sparkling wine. I didn’t really give it a second thought. I had worked all day, and he had driven all day, so neither of us had made anything for dinner. Of course, it was also snowing. Hard. So the only food we could muster up was pizza. Amazingly enough, pizza and White Star is really good together. In fact, it might be a perfect pairing. That has of course endured because of the comic aspect of it.

The wine itself is smooth with a touch of acidity. I don’t normally find sparkling wine has much vanilla in it, but this has it without being sweet in the slightest. The overall effect is pleasant, appealing to those with a lot of wine experience as well as those who just like to drink it. It has none of the tartness that often accompanies a cheaper bottle of sparkling wine.

The price is fair – not extravagant and not cheap. While it’s not en everyday wine for most average people, it’s the perfect cost for special occasions or gifts.
