Product Review

Ok For the Price, Not a Camry

by   amary ,   Jul 31, 2001

Pros:  Looks good, glides down the highway

Cons:  Small interior, jerky in stop and go traffic

The Bottom Line:  I do not recommend this car for use for street driving because it is jerky at speeds lower than 50 mph.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

My 626 was the right car for the right price, but it does not have the smooth ride or large feel of my Camry. I wish it had a bit more pep and was more comfortable. It does not enjoy climbing the smallest of hills and jerks when you first shift into drive. It often feels boxy and the front arm rest is too far back for comfort. My mother is tall and elderly and has great trouble getting in this vehicle. My other car is a Camry; one quickly notices the difference in the comfort of the car. The Camry feels like a big car with a smooth ride. In stop and go city street traveling the Mazda 626 feels small with a jerky ride. Where the 626 is fun and enjoyable is on the open highway. When the car exceeds 50 mph, the ride becomes smooth and sleek. It loves the freeway; the faster the better up to around 89 mph where it shakes a little. It glides down the interstate and gives you that big car feel without the big car gas mileage. Basically this is a good travel car, but the morning commute on city roads leaves much to be desired.
