Logitec Z-4 Speakers Rock!!!!!

Date of Review: Mar 3, 2008

The Bottom Line:  A great bargain to upgrade your PC Sound System for general listening needs.
(review updated 05-13-08)
Still loving these speakers several months later. I'm really driving the hell out of them w/ all sorts of music w/ very little speaker distortion or crackling. I'm def. keeping these for good :)

I didn't like the built-in speakers on my new Sony Vaio Desktop so I thought well I'll just upgrade :) Went to Circuit City (Feb. 2008) and brought home the Logitec Z-4 system for $99 (priced just dropped to $79). Price still great compared to other Logitec systems or other comparable makes/models.

Installation of the Z-4 system was pretty easy. Hooked up audio signal from headphone jack to middle subwoofer/speaker/amplifier. Then run all wires back to speakers and wired remote. You will need an additional 120 volt outlet space at your computer surge protector to plug amplifier/subwoofer box into.

After my fairly picky audio test I can't detect any major sound problems (volume/treble/base is adjustable & no major crackling or cutting out at high volume or high frequency).
Volume/treble/base control and on/off located at wired remote (small enough to put next to your keyboard).

O.K. reading the other audio expert review on here these speakers are not really intended as your main entertainment center speakers. Sound isn't as fancy as full fledged home theater but better than I expected :) Also I wanted something small/compact to fit in my small workspace.

These speakers are a good addition to my computer system to listen to music while I am working. If I really want perfect performance sound for theater or stereo I go to my entertainment center to do that function. I suppose if these are were my only speakers in the house an upgrade would be reasonable. Also, I don't sit at my computer doing computer games all day so I don't need the same performance as a gaming junky might want.

Small left/right speakers look good (silver framed stand).
You'll need to get creative to find space for the subwoofer in the center of your system (maybe on an over head bookshelf).

System was supplied with adequate cord length so I didn't have to add any cord extensions. No software or computer adjustments were needed. Just set your normal computer sound output at 100% to get full signal then let your wired remote sound control modulate.

Bottom line is after a long session of editing photos and listening to half dozen movie soundtracks, couldn't be more pleased about my purchase (price drop at Circuit City gave me a small refund). Using volume setting at about 60% and 50/50 treble/base I found these speakers very easy on my ears and that's what counts. These speakers are way better than my built-in pc speakers and like having a small orchestra right there on my desk top with very little sound distortion (even at full volume) with no cracking, hissing, popping. I won't be taking these back to Circuit City (keepers for sure). O.K. so I'm not a sound snob (who cares).

Recommended to buy: Yes

Pros
Good upgrade for your PC Audio System Sound's great (vs. on board speakers).
Cons
8" subwoofer a bit big but can live with it. Test drive before you buy.
