Product Review

Skype goes Mobile

by   w4csc ,   Jun 26, 2006

Pros:  Controls Skype, not just a wireless earphone Works as advertised then some.

Cons:  No charging stand LED. Charging phone display should stay lit.

The Bottom Line:  Great replacement for the wireline home phone. Great hotspot phone, too. BUY IT! Thanks, Cisco!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Love the CIT200. I see others posting its flakey connection to Skype. That's true IF you boot Skype, yourself, which you shouldn't! Boot the CIT200 interface and let IT boot Skype and it's solid. If you have Skype booting itself at startup, disable that. Boot the CIT200 interface at startup.

I use my CIT200 on my Gateway Turion 64 notebook so I can take it with me. I park the car by one of the "hot spots", at the mall for instance, on the car battery power, then just carry the CIT200 handset in the mall. I'm seeing 100-150 meter range that way, way over the spec. Same at hot spot restaurants I go to. Leave the webcam running in the car pointed at the restaurant you're eating in, running on Skype so the callers can see where you are...(c; Make sure the base unit of the CIT200 is on the dash in the window for best coverage. It works better on the roof but it'll get stolen because they think its an XM Radio antenna. HIDE THE NOTEBOOK!

I can't believe it sells for $80. Its 1900 Mhz phone is as complex as a cellphone selling for 3 times that much and they don't include the cell!

Next product....CAMERA phone to Skype in phone with direct Wifi transceiver, 802.11g eliminating computer and base unit. Next generation logs onto Skype any time PHONE senses a hotspot that's open or your pre-configured WEP router. That would be COOL! No computer necessary.

So many hotspots....so little time....eating breakfast talking to Japan on Skype at Denny's.
