Author's Review
The first song says it all. Anything But Ordinary. That's what this CD, and Avril are. She has blended so many styles into something that is really really good, and i healthy break from pop princesses Britney and Christina.
Like most people, the thing that first turned me on to Avril was her hit song Complicated. If you haven't heard it, this song is an upbeat punk song about people trying to be something that they aren't.
The first song, Anything But Ordinary, is a slower song with good lyrics that show off her singing ability. As the title suggests, this song is about being different, somewhat of a theme on the album.
The next song, I'm With You, is another slow song, a little bit of a love song, i'm not a big fan of this one.
Losing My Grip is a harder song, kind of a punk/metal, closer to punk though. This is her latest single and probably my favorite on the album, other than complicated. It's a bit of a darker song too, not as happy as the other songs.
Mobile is a pop/punk/rap mix which sounds really really good. It might not seem like it would sound good, but i like this one a lot too. It's about life's changes and her struggle with them. Check this one out, it's different and
"fresh".
My World is ska/pop mix with a great beat. It's about her independence and just sort of not caring what other people think. Another great song.
Naked is a pop romance song. I don't really like either of these genres and the song is too slow for my liking.
Nobody's Fool is a rap/pop song, the verses are her rapping, which sounds really good, and no foul language. She then makes the chorus a pop-like sound, as well as later in the song. I like this one, but i think it could use some more rap elements, there is too much pop.
Skater Boy is another great song that is kind of rap/punk. It's about a punk and a princess and how the latter dumps the former who then goes on to be a celebrity. I like this one because it's really different than most songs that i've heard.
Things I'll Never Say is a bit of a romance song, it's slow and probably not the kind of song a guy would like. Not a favorite, but the lyrics are good.
Tomorrow is another slow song with Avril showing a little bit of punk, but not nearly enough, she sort of abandons the different feel of the rest of the album on this one.
Too Much To Ask sounds pretty similar to Tomorrow, but it's a little bit harder, a decent song. The sound is too mainstream though.
Avril finishes of the album with a bang. Unwanted is a great song that is like hard punk, with an awesome beat and great pace. This is another good one.
If you are looking for something different out there from someone who puts different styles together for a unique and great sound, check out Avril Lavigne.
