Author's Review
Superb, memorable, visually stunning - the book is a legacy from an author and photographer who love cats.
Tetsu Yamazaki is the photographer for Legacy of the Cat, and his photos put others of cats, to shame. If you don't know who he is, and haven't seen his work, you should. His photos are luminescent, and the text of this book is equally wonderful.
A slim volume of just over 130 pages, the heart of the book is a brief but accurate history & description of each of 37 cat breeds, with many excellent quality color photos of each breed. The book begins with a history of the domesticated cat, and an easy to understand but fairly thorough section on the genetics of coat color and color inheritance. The author uses many visuals to explain the range of body shapes & eye color, and is the first book I've seen since another classic, Book of the Cat, to do so in any detail.
While now outdated to a small extent (first published in 1989), it remains a necessary book for the collection of any cat lover. More accurate and thorough than other "encyclopedic" books of cat breeds, it is becoming a classic, and so in demand that a sequel is being published in early 2,000.
