Author's Review
Knowing that my 2nd washer an dryer set was about to die in just under 10 years, and being very disappointed by Whirlpool and Maytag I started out reviewing "several" units on line, and when out and about shopping. I spent nearly 3 months going through options, and considering my personal history with makes as well as my family members, so this purchase wasn't one I was making at the drop of a hat, which is what I was faced with my previous set (whirlpool which was terrible). Obviously a consumers first consideration is options, style, and then being faced with price. After much consideration I had narrowed my considerations to 3 makes, the first being the LG TROMM, the new Kenmore front loader, and the Samsung silver care. The Samsung was one that I decided first to no longer consider as having read a few reviews, and talking to a couple people that purchased it, I discovered that they were very disappointed with the performance it had. So down to the Kenmore and the LG. Side by side comparison with these two revealed the LG to have the larger capacity at 4.0 cu, it also had more options which included the new "Steam Fresh" cycle, which to be honest at the time didn't really strike me as a big deal. 1200 rpm max for the spin cycle, and lastly the LG worked out to be a little less money in the end. So LG TROMM in RED it is.
I purchased my LG pair at Home Depot and was more than satisfied with my experience there. At that time the price for the washer was 1299.00 the dryer 899.00 and when I explained that I was shopping around a bit they offered an additional 10% off on each unit with a $175.00 gift card back by mail and free delivery as well. So I was sold. Delivery was on March 9th,2007. At an additional cost you can opt for pedestal for each unit, but I wasn't overly impressed with them as you truly cannot fit bottles of Detergent in them and I will say I wanted a few more inches added to the height. I in turn built a concrete block pedestal in my basement raising the units up 17 inches mainly to assist my mother so as not to have to bend over to retrieve clothes out, total cost for the pedestal with cement $80.00 and about 4 hours to build.
As far as performance, well I can honestly say I am more than satisfied. Obviously this was an investment, so the first couple of days I camped out with my red twins and utilized every possible feature, and more than once. Some of the wash times are a little longer than I was expecting but the capacity makes up for that in doing allot more clothes for just little extra time, and the clothes are noticeably cleaner and not as "Beat up" as with my previous top loader (Whirlpool). The water extraction is simply amazing to me, and the drying times are greatly reduced in the matching dryer the times sensitive option actually works with this dryer, unlike my previous units. Less water consumption is immediately noticed as well, yet cleaner clothes so I am very impressed. The Steam Fresh cycle, as mentioned previously, wasn't a big deal to me at the time, but I must tell everyone, it is the most frequently used option with me, it is a 20 min cycle, I will just prior to getting showered etc. will toss in a sport coat slacks and shirt, come back after my shower remove my items place on a hanger (as noted in the owners manual the clothes will be "slightly" damp from the steam) by the time I finish breakfast, I get dressed and presto just as fresh as having picked them up at the dry cleaners.
I completely recommend to everyone if you purchase the LG TROMM to be certain to read your owners manual in detail, as you will be very surprised what you will learn about this unit and what it can do. I opted to install both units myself instead of the delivery men, although the washer was heavy I had assistance, and the rest of the installation was a cinch.
The dryer has many option as well, quite and very quick in drying, and as mentioned the moisture sensor actually works and well at that.
The washer as I stated has been placed with its sister dryer on a concrete block pedestal which is built directly on a concrete basement floor, so no vibrations what so ever, which I would suggested keeping in consideration if you were to place these units on a sub-floor, I only mention this as I have read a couple of instances of vibration from the high RPM this washer gives off.
A side note, there was one step up model of LG to this one, and the only difference besides price of about $200, was an LCD screen, which truthfully to me was of no use.
Lastly a couple of mentions that I would like to ad to perhaps assist others out there.
The washer doesn't have a reversible door, but the dryer does. Although I very much love the red color, and I am a bit meticulous, the red seems to show dust very easily, something I have no problem dusting off with the swiffler duster. Once you are finished doing laundry for the day you should leave the door open for a couple of hours and run a towel in the inner lip of the rubber seal just as good maint. and hygiene for the washer. And finally, my electric and water bill have been reduced since this purchase, making me feel even better having made this investment.
Certainly hope this helps in their considerations.

UPDATE 10-7-07
It has been some time since my purchase of this wonderful Washer and Dryer set. To date both the washer dryer have been just as fantastic as when it was delivered, I have had to tweak the use of the dryer when drying certain things. For example when doing a larger load of towels, I set the dry level to "more" dry so as to be certain the towels are completely dry, ( and they have been ). I have had "no" issues that a couple of others have mentioned in their reviews. IE odor and mildew. I actually was at Home Depot where I purchased my set and the salesman who sold them to me stop me to say hello and see how things were. During our conversation I mentioned to him the couple of reviews that have appeared here, and he stated to me he had one customer mention an odor/mildew problem occurring, and he stated to me that this customer admitted that it was their laziness in not properly caring for their machine, specifically drying the inner lip of the washer and leaving the door open to dry the tub completely. On top of that he stated that this customer admitted she had washed a very large load of jeans and left them closed up in the washer for nearly 5 days. Obviously no matter if you have an LG or any other type of washer, odor and mildew are going to form with this type of habit. Although I realize I am very particular on caring for not only my clothes, but also my appliances as well, so good habits of maintaining are what helps avoid any problem such as this. So as stressed in my original review I highly recommend "reading" the manual that comes with this set. Finally since my purchase my mother, brother, and a good friend have purchased this exact set from May to June of this year "07" and are just as satisfied as I am. Ran
