Author's Review
The KitchenAid Ultra Power Stand Mixer was a birthday present from my husband nearly two years ago. Since then, this has been one of the most used appliances in our kitchen. And with its additional, and many various options, this mixer has proven to be a cost effective and time-saving machine. This particular mixer is part of the KitchenAid Countertop Collection; other appliances include food processors, coffee makers, blenders, microwave ovens and toasters.
I knew what I wanted in performance and durability, and the brand I believed to fit my criteria was this stylish and practical KitchenAid KSM90 model. Hubby listened! Subsequently, this mixer has surpassed all of my previous expectations of such a machine. And after nearly two years of frequent use, I remain extremely pleased to have obtained it as an addition to my other indispensable kitchen gadgetry.
Biscotti? You Betcha!
The Ultra Power KSM90 has the capacity to knead two loaves of bread at the once, even thick biscotti dough. A favorite of mine. Its constant dependability of performance, as well as the overall ease of clean-up leads me to use this machine for even the simplest of meal preparations. Complete with a handled four and one-half quart bowl that twist-locks into place, clean-up is as simple as one, two, three - raise the mixing arm, twist the bowl, and rinse.
This mixer has gotten me in the kitchen much more often then I might have spent doing the same functions by hand. Much to my neighbors and friends pleasure, I have been baking up a plethora of tasty treats since its arrival. I simply decide the project, gather and measure the ingredients, and this little gem of a mixer does the rest.
This mixer is somewhat compact, fitting easily into a corner niche upon my countertop and even under-counter space when needed. Although quite heavy, the movement of this machine is not frequent or necessary, for the most part. When cleaning, I just simply push it aside and go about my business.
At just under fourteen inches, this machine is compact enough to fit under most countertops, or within, as desired by individual consumers. Weight-wise, this mixer is definitely no featherweight contender; at twenty-six pounds, the base stays put when in use and makes for a small chore to relocate on a frequent basis. The specific dimensions: Height 13.9" Width 8.7" Depth 14.1" Weight 26.0 lbs.
The Ultra Power KSM90 series is offered in various popular colors to match any home decor. Available colors are White, Almond Cream, Cobalt Blue, Empire Green, Onyx Black, and Empire Red. I have the white model.
The KitchenAid Ultra Power Stand Mixer comes with detailed instructions, a fifty-eight page recipe booklet, and three separate attachments. The included attachments being a whip and paddle appropriate for a majority of cooking needs, as well as a dough hook for making bread. This particular model by Kitchen Aid has a 300 watt motor, ten adjustable speeds, and a mixing arm which tilts upwards for easier insertion and removal of individual attachments.
This mixers power hub is made specifically for the use of additional attachments, these can be attached by merely unscrewing a knob and removing the round plate that otherwise covers this opening. All of these optional items, their individual use and the means of attachment are specified within the user manual.
The Extras
Additional attachments that can be purchased for this KitchenAid model generally range between $14 150 dollars; regardless of whether you purchase these items through their catalog (included with purchase), online or in stores. While some of the various attachments hold no appeal for me, others do. A tad expensive, perhaps, yet from what I know of the items I currently own Kitchen Aid products last. Included among these accessories:
· Food Grinder
· Fruit and Vegetable Strainer
· Slicer and Shredder
· Grain Mill
· Can Opener
· Citrus Juicer
· Pasta Maker
· Pour Shield
· Cover For Your Mixer, this helps to prevent dust and food particles from adhering to its surface, saves a lot of extra cleaning too

Total Replacement Warranty
The KitchenAid Company also offers a one-year warranty that includes parts, repair, and any labor costs incurred to correct defects in materials or workmanship. This warranty also includes delivering right to your door or arrangements to return any defective item to the company, as well as guaranteeing to replace the appliance itself should it fail within the first year of ownership.
A detailed description of this warranty and contact information is included within the products accompanying users manual, as well as posted on their website. Within that first year, I never had to take advantage of this generous warranty coverage. To date, my mixer is still going strong, without any signs of mechanical wear and tear whatsoever.
Recommendation
This stand mixer is truly a wonderful and time saving product from the KitchenAid company, one I have come to rely on for the majority of my baking needs. Its proven durability, ease of operation and clean-up make the Ultra Power Stand Mixer KSM90 one I highly recommend to those seeking a reliable and versatile machine capable of doing everything from beating eggs and grinding meat to making your own pasta.
