Kaito KA1107 portable SW receiver

I bought this (actually the Degen-branded identical model) because double-conversion analogue receivers are pretty rare these days and I wanted to learn if they really work better than the single-conversion I needed to replace. After a few weeks I am impressed with the sensitivity and selectivity - weak stations just pop in clear and without overlap - and image rejection seems excellent. The external antenna that is supplied is quite handy, and brings in a few more stations. Audio quality is very good, but please - don't call it "mega-bass"! Where this Chinese bargain falls down is in quality - nobody would ever confuse it with a model from Sony or Grundig. The tuning dial started acting weird so I opened it and found that a thin black plastic piece had warped. I fixed that problem but got an "inside" look at why it is so cheap! At $30 on EBay it was half the price of my old China-made Radio Shack DX350 that served me well for 15 years.
