I recently purchased two MRC-11X radios, the new version. One for the wife and I to intercom and the second radio for a friend.
I purchased them from a distributor for $69each, and then purchased an extra headset ($39.99).
I was excited to take this one on the road for a test and after the day long ride I was very disappointed in this MRC-11X.
I will be returning them and trying to find something that works better.
The first problem I had was the audio quality of the speakers were horrible. It was very hard to hear and not much volume with the MRC11x turned all the way up. I found the speakers to be uncomfortable in the helmet after about an hour.
With the two way communication between radios, it's impossible to hear what the other person is saying due to the poor speaker quality and lack of volume. The other thing that really bothered me was that the speaker and mic were always on, meaning as you are cruising down the road you can hear everything coming out of the speaker. After about an hour my ear was ringing because the speaker was constantly outputting the sound of the exhaust pipes, lots of static, cars zooming by, and everything in the background.
If it was possible to disable the speaker and only have it come on when there was communication or disable the mic until you were talking, this would be better.
The intercom part did work, but again with the quality issues and the speaker always on it was a bit annoying and hard to talk with the passenger.
We found that the radio to radio communication didnt work. My friend who was about 8 car lengths ahead could not hear any of my transmissions. He could hear the beep tone when I pressed the PTT button but that was all he heard. Of course when we were stopped at a light he could mildly hear my transmission but not when traveling between 10-25mph.
When he did try to communicate with me it was hard to hear him.
The last thing we tried was plugging a MP3 player into the Aux port on the unit. Again, hardly any volume on the speaker and that was with the MP3 players volume turned up to max. There is no way to hear any of your tunes when riding with this unit
Save your money and buy something better. Nady still has a lot of improvements to make on this communicator.
This unit was tested with a closed face helmet and the deflector closed
