Author's Review
I want to start off by saying I am a mom of 4 and have used A LOT of strollers over the years. My oldest 2 are too big for a stroller, but I have an active 3 year old and a now 3 month old as well. Due to the fact my 3 year old is extremely active and won't sit, I began my hunt for a double stroller that he could stand on as well as would accommodate an infant carrier. Before I knew what a Joovy was, I went to a store and saw the Baby Trend sit and stand. Not really knowing there were any others out there, I was all set to buy it. The baby was about to be born so I needed one ASAP. The sales person told me they were out of stock so I couldn't buy it. I keep telling myself, thank goodness I didn't. I went to Babies R' Us right away to see if they had one and not only did they have it but that an even better one called the Joovy Caboose! I pulled it off the shelf at the store and began playing with it. This is what I liked about it.
Number 1, it was so much more roomier for my 3 year old, than the Baby Trend Sit n' stand. He could sit on this adjustable padded seat that can slide back and forth for more or less room or he could stand. There is also this belt that is attached to the steering handle that can clip behind them for safety. 2. It could accommodate an infant carrier. On the front of the stroller you can clip on this car seat attachment (it's removable and a toddler tray can be inserted instead when the child is able to sit in the seat), that holds the infant carrier. Than on each side are 2 pockets that hold straps, and you just pull them over and around the car seat and clip it and it's SO snug! The car seat cannot move at all. When you don't need to use the carseat you just tuck the straps back into the elastic pockets. It takes literally less than 30 seconds to clip on the infant bar and just as easy to take it off, which is a plus for me because I'm always in a hurry.
3. There is a seatbelt on the older child seat, so when they are sitting, you can strap them in also. This has totally come in handy when my 3 year old is being rambunctious. I just strap him in the seat and he can't go anywhere. There is also a harness system on the front seat (when you're not using the carrier) to hold the child in the front safely and securely . It also has reflective stitching for nighttime use which is an added bonus!
4. It is so easy to fold! You just unlock the metal latch (that prevents you from closing it accidentally), lift up on these two levers located on the top sides of the stroller and push forward and the whole stroller folds forward tight and compact. You secure the stroller by latching the metal latch and just pick it up by the side handles (the ones the child holds on to when standing.
5. It is very easy to move and maneuver. It is a smooth riding stroller.
6. The handles are all padded so it's comfortable to push.
What I DON'T really like about the stroller is that it has no parent cup holder but I was willing to do with out it. I see Joovy now makes a parent organizer that attaches to the handle so it's not a problem anymore.
I also am not fond of the basket. It is large but it's hard to get anything in there when a child is sitting in the seat. You actually have to go around to the side of the stroller and pull down on the netting and shove your items in there. When I go shopping I usually hang my bags and my pocketbook off the metal latch located on the right side of the handle which is used to hold the stroller together once it's closed. It works pretty well, you wouldn't believe how many bags I've hung on it at once. I usually hang my diaper bag around the handle as it cannot fit in the basket underneath.
Another minus is that once the baby is older and is sitting in the front seat, if he falls asleep and I have to recline it, my 3 year old will have to stand and won't be able to sit during that time as it reclines right into the seat.
The stroller is also pretty heavy but I guess I kind of like it like that. I can tell it's made with quality construction and it's not too heavy to lift into my van.
Above all, the pro's definitely outweigh the petty cons of my review. This has been the best stroller I've bought and I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a stroller to accommodate an older child and a baby.
