Product Review

Good crib and good price!

by   nicnat25 ,   Jul 2, 2008

Pros:  Easy to assemble, easy to use, inexpensive

Cons:  None so far!

The Bottom Line:  I would recommend this crib because it's inexpensive, looks nice, and seems very durable! It is cheap but it doesn't LOOK cheap!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

When our first baby was born, my sister in law loaned us a crib that we really liked but she ended up having another baby. So we gave her the crib back and bought one second-hand from a friend. That one worked well for us, then we had another baby and used it for her as well. I got pregnant again last year and about the same time, that crib started falling apart. I believe our oldest daughter climbed over it and put too much pressure on it, so the hardware wasn't lining up right. We simply turned the crib around so that part was against the wall. Well, we solved THAT problem only to start having another one. The bottom of the crib fell out with my daughter in it! When I looked closer at it, I realized some screws were missing. I don't know if they had been missing all along and this problem had nothing to do with missing screws or WHAT. I never could quite figure out what was causing that.

Anyway, we decided it was time for a new crib! I saw a Jenny Lind on sale at Kmart for $90.00 and it had a matching changing table on sale, also. I thought that was a really good price, even if it just lasts as long as your baby needs it. (2-3 years). Seems most baby equipment anymore isn't designed to be used for more than one baby, anyway. The first Kmart we went to had none in stock (typical!), but they were nice and called the Kmart across town to see if they had any. They had several, so we went over there and bought one. We decided against buying the changing table because we were very limited on space. We were living with my inlaws at the time while building our house, and the 4 of us were sharing one bedroom.

When we bought the crib, I was expecting that really dark wood..which I'm not too crazy about since I'm partial to light colored wood, but the price was right so I can deal with a dark color! BUT...when we got it home and set up, I was pleasantly surprised. It's a lighter wood color than I had expected and it was actually quite nice.

By the way, my husband had the crib set up in about 10 minutes. It wasn't difficult at all.

The crib has a drop down side, which was different than our old crib, and I really like that. You just grab at the top, pull up on it, and with your foot you push where it says "push." (pretty simple to understand!). Then to get it back up, you just pull it up and it locks back into place. SOOOO easy, you can do it with one hand. Our other crib took BOTH hands to do, which was a pain if you went to put the baby down and realized the side was still up!

Well, our daughter used the crib up until 2 months ago and the crib actually survived the past year without a scratch. Okay, maybe a scratch but I was expecting her to destroy it before our new baby could even use it!. We have another daughter who is 5 and I can't tell you how many times I found the crib stuffed full of toys, or caught both of my daughters jumping inside the crib! ("Ooooh...trampoline!").

Our new baby outgrew his bassinet 2 months ago, so we had to move him to the crib and move my daughter into a regular bed. There are four different heights for the mattress, but I had started out with my daughter on the lowest height and just kept it that way for my new baby. I'm just average height, but even to me it's so easy to reach down for him that I didn't feel like I needed to adjust it. I still love the crib and it's still serving us well for our ninety bucks!
