Product Review

Very nice cradle for your little one!

by   tvpaire ,   Mar 30, 2005

Pros:  Bigger than a bassinet, lightweight, easy to move from room to room.

Cons:  None yet.

The Bottom Line:  If you have another one still in the crib, this almost seems like a necessity.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

We bought this cradle (for $79.99 at Babies-r-Us in Honey Oak) to use when our second baby. Our children are 18 months apart and our first child is still happy with his crib. (In the Jenny Lind style as well.) We opted for a cradle because we didn't want to purchase another crib.

This is a standard cradle with the inside measuring 18 x 36 inches. This seems small, but it is a lot bigger than a bassinet. (My first son was only 6.5 pounds when we brought him home and he seemed too big for the Kolcraft Lite Vibes we borrowed by 2 months of age.) This has keep our new addition comfortable for 4-5 months.

The cradle was easy enough for me to put together by myself being 8 months pregnant. It took about 1/2 an hour. It comes with an 18 x 36 x 1 inch vinyl mattress, but we replaced that with a two inch thick mattress. (The original mattress felt very flimsy, cheap, and it was very noisy . If you are on a budget, it is nice that this cradle comes with a mattress, but I highly recommend a thicker one. We purchased the thicker one at Babies-R-Us for $14.99.) The cradle also rocks from side to side. It can be locked into position with no motion as well by 2 little kick-stand looking things located one of the front leg or the cradle and one on the back.

Put together, this cradle is very sturdy and well worth the money spent on it. It fits through standard doorways with ease and it's light enough that it can be dragged around if necessary. It is also nice that it matches our changing table and crib perfectly.

I believe that weight restrictions for this cradle are 20 pounds, but please don't quote me on that. (Call the store for details.) Also, the manufacturer recommends that you discontinue the use of this cradle when your baby can sit up or pull up by himself.

When we brought our new baby home, she was very content in this cradle. In the middle of the night, after being fed and changed, we gently rocked the cradle from side to side and she passed right out...for maybe another hour or two! (With newborns, you take what you can get!) Also, I have found the kick-stand features to lock the cradle in place to be a lifesaver! My 18 month old always wants to look at his sister and he is very strong. So, we made sure to lock the cradle into the non-rocking position so there was no way he could tip the cradle over. We also have a huge (111 lbs.) yellow lab and he has bumped into the cradle several times while playing and the cradle hasn't even budged!

After my baby moved on to napping in a crib, we still used this cradle for naps in the family room downstairs until a good 4-5 months. (She didn't care for napping in the pack'n play.)

Overall, I would say this has definately been a good investment! $79.99 for a baby product I used for around 5 months...you can't beat that! I highly recommend it!
