Author's Review

It took me a while to catch on to the MegaMan series but when I did I loved the games. The first MegaMan game I played was MegaMan Battle Network 3 Blue for the Gameboy Advance. I was sad when the MegaMan Battle Network series came to an end after release MegaMan Battle Network 6 Cybeast Falzar and Cybeast Gregar. I was real excited when I looked on Gamestop.com to see if there are any new games coming out because I found out that they were making new MegaMan games for the Nintendo DS. When I first heard MegaMan StarFore Leo, Pegasus, and Dragon coming out I was real excited. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the game right away since we didn't have the extra money at the time to buy the game. Just this Saturday I got MegaMan StarForce Leo and my brother got MegaMan StarForce Pegasus. I was so excited when I got the game I wanted to play it right away. Once I started playing the game I was so happy that I got the game. The game is so fun and its better than most of the other MegaMan games I played. To find out why this game is so much fun keep reading.

Story

The story starts three years after NAZA launched their space station Peace in order to create a BrotherBand with aliens on another planet. The space station Peace ended up having a mysterious accident and disappeared. They ended up finding a section of Peace in the ocean a few months after the strange accident. The actual story start three years after the accident with a boy who lives in the town of Echo Ridge. Now the world is starting to be invaded by FM-ains from the planet FM. They are sent to Earth by the FM king in pursuit of Omega-XIS. It so happens that Omega-XIS has something the FM king needs so he can take over and destroy Earth with. He ends up meeting the main character of the game Geo Stelar. He ends up inviting himself into Geo's transer and they became friends after that. Together it is up to Geo and Mega, which is short for Omega-XIS, to save the world from the FM-ians and the evil FM king.

Gameplay

There are many characters in the game that you will meet, but I will only name the most important characters in the game. Here are some of the characters and a short description of each of them:

Geo Stelar- He is the main character of the game. He is a 5th grader and he lives in Echo Ridge. Something happened three years ago cause him to stop going to school and want to be left all alone. He spends most of his time staring at the sky and he has always dreamed to be a astronaut like his dad.

Omega-XIS- He is an energy being from the planet FM who invited himself into Geo's transfer. He seems to know Geo's dad for some reason. Every ends up calling him Mega instead of Omega-XIS.

MegaMan- He is the fused EM form of Geo and Omega-XIS or Mega.

Sonia Strumm- She is a very popular and young singer and she ends up becoming friends with Geo after she gets Geo to change.

Bud Bison- He is a very rough and tough kid who has the muscles the back him up. He ends up becoming friends with Geo after Geo turns into MegaMan and saves him for about the third time.

Luna Platz- She is the class President of the class that Geo is supposed to be in. She tries very hard to get Geo to go to school. She ends up liking MegaMan after he saved her and she ends up becoming Geo's second friend. She ends up starting to like Geo after Geo and Sonia start hanging out together more.

Zack Temple- He is the genius at Echo Ridge Elementary school and he is the only genius in Echo Ridge. He is always hanging with Luna and Bud and he always joins Bud in messing with Geo. I am not sure if you end up becoming brothers with him or not since I am not done with the game yet. I know he ends becoming friends with Geo in the end but not sure if he becomes brothers with Geo though.

In this game everyone carries a mobile terminal which is called a Transer. Its a useful device that has evolved from cell phones. The transer serves as a cell phone, it also sends and receives emails, and it also can display text from things like textbooks and newspapers. Another feature of the transer is that it can summon Navis through Card Force which is a card system they use. When a person slides a card through the transer the owner can call for help from a Navi. All transers are registered to one of the three Satellites which are: Pegasus, Leo, and Dragon.

Transers support an on board system which is called the BrotherBand System. People use brotherbands to strenghtin their friendship with their close friends. When friends form brotherbands with each other they can keep in touch no matter how far apart they are. They can email each other and they can even send data back and forth. No matter how far apart they are they are still connected by the brotherband and their friendship.

While exploring the Real World you can talk to people and examine objects by pressing the A button. At the beginning of the game you will receive a Visualizer. This Visualizer allows you to see the Wave World. To put on the Visualizers just press the Y button and press the Y button again to take them off. If you want to talk to Omega-Xis just press the L button. While in the Real World you will find waveholes that will bring you to the Wave World. While standing over a wavehole press the R button and Geo and Omega will fuse and become MegaMan and you will now be in the Wave World. When you press the select button while in the Real World it will change the card that is displayed on the top screen. While in the Real World you can also answer to Help Signals and the word Help would flash in the upper right corner when someone is in trouble.

The Wave World a mysterious place that humans have no idea exists. Only Navis can go into the Wave World. While in the Wave World there are many things you can do. When you want to leave the Wave World all you have to do is press the R button. When you go back to the Real World from the Wave World it is called Pulse out. While in the Wave World you will sometimes find EM crystals which are called mystery waves. When you examine one of these you many find a Battle Card or an item in it. While in the Wave World you can actually go into other peoples transers by Pulsing into the transers. Since you can still see the people while in the Wave World all you have to do is touch the person and you will pulse into the persons transer. You can even pules into electronic devices while in the Wave World. When you tap a wavehole on the device you will be whisked into the devices Comp Space.

While in a Comp Space a Navi can control that device as long as the Navi can find the control panel to control it with. You will end up finding viruses and sometimes FM-ians in some of these Comp Spaces. You will end up having to get rid of them so the device can function properly again. You will run into some different obstacles you need to use your stylus to do in some of the Comp Spaces.

Now it is time to talk about the Battles in MegaMan Star Force Leo. While wondering around the Wave World viruses will attack you and when they do attack you a battle will start. You will see the Custom Screen when a battle starts. The Custom Screen is where you choose the Battle Cards that you want to use in the battle. Six cards are chosen randomly from your currently equipped folder and displayed here on the Custom Screen. To choose a Battle Card you can either move the cursor over the card a press the A button or simply tap the card with your stylus. There are rules you have to follow when selecting battle cards to use. When you want to choose more than one card you either have to choose more than one card that is the same as it or is in the same row as it. Then there are White Cards that are battle cards with a white bar at the bottom and they can be used with any other cards. While on the Custom Screen you run away from a battle if you press the L button, but sometimes you will not be able to run. If you and your brother have the same card in your folder and are On Air at the same time your card will turn into a Share Star. This gives your battle card extra power. When you are ready to start the actual battle you just need to press or tap the OK button.

There are four different card types you can use in battles. First is the Battle Card which is the most common of the types. You can get Battle Cards by buying them at shops or get them by defeating EM viruses. These Cards come in yellow, blue, red, and white. These colors denote the different class of the battle cards. You only get one Star Force card in the game. You get this card along your journey. You use this card to transform into Fire Leo MegaMan. If you have a brother that has one of the other versions of the game you can also change into those types of MegaMan. Brother Force Cards which are obtained when you become brothers with someone. When your brother is On Air you can use this card to use your brothers Best Combo. If your brother is not On Air and use this card in battle, a roulette of your brother's favorite cards will start. This allows you to use one of your brothers cards in battle. The last of the types of cards is the Legend Force Card. There is a certain person in the game that can turn your Best Combo into a one use Battle Card. Unfortunately a Legend Force Card is a one time use card only so after you use it the card disappears.

Once you have chosen your battle cards and tapped the OK button it switches over to the Action Screen. At the top left corner of the Action Screen is a rectangle that displays MegaMan's HP. At the top right corner is the Custom Gauge. This gauge will begin to fill the instant you step onto the battle field. When it is full you press either the L or R button to bring the Custom Screen back up so you can choose more battle chips to use. In this game it is more of a first person fighting type where you have one row and all you can do is more left and right. To fire your MegaBuster just press the B button and the MegaBuster has unlimited ammo. If you want to rapid fire just hold down the B button. When you are don't fire your MegaBuster for a while the MegaBuster will automatically charge up for a Charge Shot. At the bottom of the Action Screen is where the Next Battle Chip you are going to use is displayed. The HP of the enemy is show right below the enemy. To use a Battle Card all you have to do is press the A button. If you press the Y button while in a battle a shield will appear right in front of MegaMan. This shield an withstand most attacks, but there some attacks that can break through the shield. If your attack hits an enemy just as it is attacking, you have now pulled of a Counter. When a counter occurs a card is randomly chosen from your equipped folder and given to you as a Bonus Card for you to use. You can even lock-on to your enemies by press the down key on the control pad. When you lock onto an enemy you have a better chance of hitting the enemy with your battle card. When you win a battle you are then taken to the Results Screen, this is where you can see your battle time, your Busting Level, and any data you have required for winning the battle. The Busting Level is basically an evaluation of your virus busting techniques. The better your Busting Level is the more valuable items you get after winning a battle.

When battling an EX or SP class boss if you fullfill the following requirements you can get a Best Combo. A Best Combo is a combination of cards that causes lots of damage. When you create a Best Combo you can name it and equip it. In order to make a Best Combo you have to land 300 or more points of damage in one turn and you have to use three of more cards to make a Best Combo. Unfortunately you can't use Big Bang, Mega Class, or Giga Class Cards to make a Best Combo. You can save up to 7 different Best Combo's but you can only equip one combo at a time.

During your journey you will meet the three Satellite Admins, one of whom is Leo Kingdom. If you can pass the Star Force Tests Leo gives you he will then give you the Power of Star Force. When you use the Star Force card in battle you will turn into Fire Leo MegaMan. While you are Fire Leo MegaMan you can counter and receive a special Bonus Card called the SFB Card. The full name of the card is Star Force Big Bang. This Star Force Big Bang card will cause Fire Leo MegaMan to use his ultimate attack, Atomic Blazer. When you are Fire Leo MegaMan your charge shot is changed to a giant flame-thrower which burns through your enemies. If Fire Leo MegaMan is hit with a Aqua attack you will be reverted back to MegaMan since Aqua is your weakness in that form. If you have a brother who has either the Dragon or Pegasus version you can also use the power of those admins temporarily as well.

When you press the X button while on the Field Screen the Transer Screen will com up. You can do many different things here on the Transer Screen, such as editing your Battle Card folder and to save your game. The first option of the Transer Screen is Persnl which is your Personal Card. The Personal Card is where your personal info is shown and stored. The next is Mega which of course is your Mega Card. This card has Omega-Xis's information on it which include Omega's weapons. Then there is the option Brother which is your Brother Card. This card displays the information about your current Brothers. The next option is B. Card which of course is where you can edit and equip your battle card folders. Then there is the Item option which is where all your subcards and key items are stored. The On Air options is what you choose when you want to connect to your brothers and go On Air. The Library Card displays all the Battle Cards you have collected during the game. The next option is the Connect Card which allows you trade battle cards with local friends or Brothers. You can even battle your brothers by connecting with each others DS. Then you have the Save option which of course allows you to save your game when you want to. The last option is the Email card which allows you to check any email you may have and you can even send email to Real Brothers here too.

On the Brother Card it displays all your brothers and yourself of course. It shows a face pic and the level of each of your brothers and in the middle it shows a face pic and level of you. When you select your self you can view your own Personal Page. Your Personal Page shows your face pic, your level, your name, your favorite card, your message, secret, best combo, and link ability. If you press the X button while on the Personal Page you can actually edit your personal page. You can change your name, face pic, message, secret, favorite cards, and B. Combo.

There are many things you can do with a brother when you are both On Air. You can trade and update data while on air and you will gain functions and abilities while on air. Your link abilities will update and your brother force cards will switch from being a favorite to a Best Combo. If a Share Star appears, the battle card's attack power will be increased. While On Air you can look at each others library if you want to. Your Record Screen data will also be updated when you go on Air. You can even send and receive emails from Brothers while On Air.

When you want to trade or battle with a nearby friend you have to connect with that person through the Wireless Screen. You can either trade or battle when you connect via wireless connection. When you battle a friend and the Brother Request is on you can ask the friend to be your brother once the battle is over. You can either play a practice match or play an actual match against a friend. When you play an actual match the loser has to give the winner one of your battle cards that are in your card box.

Controls

The controls will change when you go from one screen to another screen. The control pad is used to move the character while in the field screen, it moves MegaMan left and right while in the Action Screen, it moves the cursor in the Field Screen, Custom Screen, and the Entry Screen. The A button is used to speak, examine, and confirm while in the Field Screen. While in the Custom Screen the A button is used to choose a battle card and confirm choices. In the Action Screen the A button is used to use a Battle Card. In the Entry Screen the A button is used to select a character. While in the Field Screen and the Custom screen the B button is used to cancel a selection. In the Action Screen the B button is used to fire the MegaBuster. While on the Entry Screen the B button is used as a backspace key. The Y button is used only in the Real World of the Field Screen and on the Action Screen it is used to activate a shield. On the Entry Screen the Y button is used to change the character set. While on the Field Screen the L button lets you talk to Omega-Xis and on the Custom Screen the L button lets you run away from a battle. When on the Action Screen the L button opens the Custom screen. On the Entry Screen the L button is used to shift the cursor left or right. On the Field Screen the R button is used in the Real World to Pulse in and in the Wave World and Comp Space it is used to Pulse out. While on the Custom Screen the R button displays a description of a battle card. The R button for the Action and the Entry Screens has the same action as the L button does. While on the Field Screen the Start button closes the Transer menu. On the Custom Screen the Start button moves the cursor to OK and on the Action Screen the Start button pauses the battle. On the Entry Screen the Start button is used to move the cursor to OK. On the Field Screen the Select button is used to switch between different cards on the top screen. Then on the Entry Screen the Select button is used to go to the next line. You also can use your stylus for a lot of the actions like select an option on the transer and selecting the battle chips on the custom screen.

Graphics

The graphics for this game are real good for a DS game. The graphics for this game are actually better than quiet a lot of the games on the DS now. The graphics are a lot better than most of the previous MegaMan games, but of course it is since all the other ones are only on the gameboy advance. The people and the places have quiet a bit of good detail. MegaMan is real detailed and so are the viruses and all the bosses. These graphics don't blow me away but they are still real good. I can't really compare the graphics to the other MegaMan games for the DS though since this is the first MegaMan game I played for the DS.

Sounds

The sound in this game are really great just like all the other MegaMan games. I like listening to the sound and music in the MegaMan games. I actually like the music in this game better than all the other MegaMan games. The only thing is that there are still no voice overs and it gets annoying when there is a lot of talking because you have to go through so much text and the sound it makes when you are scrolling through the text is not that great to listen to. Other than that the sound and music in the game are real great and cool.

Overall this is the best MegaMan game I have played so far. I recommend this game to all those fans of the MegaMan series and anyone who is interested in playing a MegaMan game.
