Author's Review
I bought this car together with my girl friend. It was pre-owned with about 10k miles. I co-signed for the deal and have driven the car countless times as well as sat in the passenger seat. We paid $15,000 for it back in 2007. That included, remainder of the factory warranty, free oil changes for life using synthetic, roadside assistance and tire damage replacement.
Exterior: When we got to the lot we walked toward the Fit. The sales guy said Fit and my GF had no clue what that was. It is automatic with all power windows and locks, the sales guy said. The car is puny to me at 6'3" 180 lbs. My GF is 5'1". The tires are really skinny little 15" tires come with the basic Fit. The Sport Fit comes packing with 16" alloys. To me these cars look like little shoe boxes on wheels. Up close we began to appreciate the cars aero dynamic lines and engineering. All Fits are 4 dr. hatch backs. The tail lights are high up but not too high and the head lights were very large. The Jetta we used to own had poor lighting at night and the Fit lights up the road with no problem. The door handles are a flip up type and have a sturdy feel to them. The side mirrors are huge giving the driver excellent lane changing vision. The car has an appealing look which I have noticed after we had the car for a week, what a growing number of fan following it has. It’s in tuner magazines and on the internet with younger generation tuning and customization community. I feel this popularity coupled with gas prices only helps the Fit maintain its value.
Interior: What a trick this car pulled on me. It looks small but the interior is BIG. Because the car has a high stance of course you have plenty of head room. Im 6'3" as I mentioned and the sales guy was a big Russian man I would say about 6'4" 6'5" about 240. He was in the back seat just like nothing. There is plenty of leg room for reasons I cant fully understand how. The dash has very straight forward easy to read back lit gauges and rotary knobs, and they look nice when illuminated at night with crisp clear white and blue read outs. Radio sounds good with AM/FM CD 160W 4 speakers. We use the iPod most of the time. The Fit Sport comes with a 200W 6 speaker system. Our trim doesn’t have cruise control but the Sport does. The only thing I don't like is the seat belt alert because sometimes I drive to very close places like almost walking distance from home and the beep alert will not ever stop. Very annoying, but it is safety. The cargo area is also large for groceries and stuff. When you fold down the seats it boasts a 41.5 cubic feet of spaces. Helping a propective buyer who is reading this understand is a good example of when we purchased a new washing machine in the box and put it in the Fit with the trunk closed. Another complaint I have is minor but Honda should have place a power lock switch in the passenger side as well.
Engine & Transmission: The 2007 Fit comes equipped with a 1.5L V-Tec engine putting out about 110 hp. & 105 Ft. lbs of torque. 5 sp manual and 4 speed auto available. Punch the accelerate and you can hear the familiar v-tec sound effortlessly revving up through the gears. The light weight and V-Tec power make the car very peppy off the line and in the city but the highway it struggles above 50MPH to gain speed. So the car is peppy and strong just don’t try racing for pinks or something like that. The tranny shifts smoothly considering it’s an economy car and with the automatic there is gear indicator next to the shifter as well as a lighted one next to the RPM gauge. We have about 25k miles at this time with no problems mechanically, but we do take care of it with regular oil changes and inspections.
Braking and safety: The Fit has standard front Driver & Pass. air bags as well as curtains coming from the pillars. According to Edmunds, Anti lock brakes stop you from 60-0 in 123 feet which is better than a Nissan Versa at 139 feet and actually better than a Civic Si at 129 feet. People tend to forget the car is very light at about 2500 lbs curb weight.
Economy: There is a 10.8 gallon tank with the Fit. We usually fill up with about $35 or less. Honda claims 38 city and 33 Hwy. We think it gets that much and probably more. Gas is not a problem for us with this car.
