Bionare B3950

I am writing this review as my Bionaire B3950 heater just caught fire. Thankfully I was at home when this occured. I started smelling an oil-like odor and my initial thought was that my new furnace or my new oil tanks were leaking oil. I live in an old farmhouse but all of the electrics are new and very well maintained. Still, type A or not, the house will go up quickly in a fire so I am very very cautious with anything electric.
Turns out the heater was smoking and emitting toxic fumes. It always smelled somewhat but I never paid it much attention. Then I noticed that it was actually on fire. I unplugged and then debated whether to quickly throw it outside in the snow (snow day for my kid). I noticed the thing is made in China, probably in the same factory that makes lead paint, or deadly toothpaste. I would not be writing this is I was to blame in any way, but the heater was in an open space, plugged directly into an outlet (no extension), on half setting (i.e. not on full heat) and the thermostat was set halfway. The unit was purchased last fall, so it is not more than a few months old and has been used no more than a dozen times.
I have owned many heaters, most of them break down within a year or two. I have had the best luck with little ceramic fan heaters. I would not recommend this particular product unless you want to cook marshmallows in the embers of your home.
I made contact with customer service. So far they have been polite and have apologized. I am sure they will offer me my money back which I am not interested in. I would rather take out my anger by informing others about this product. An apology does not cut it.
I will send this charred unit back to the manufacturer so that they can hopefully take action. I will also contact the people that certified it as their testing was clearly sub-standard.
