Author's Review

Specifications:
-Hitachi CM771 19" ErgoFlat
-1600x1200@75Hz max resolution
-0.22mm dot pitch
-Depth of a 17" monitor
-Perfectly flat screen

Introduction:
I was looking for a 19" monitor under $500, so after comparing many different monitors, I chose the Hitachi CM771 for $480 from Outpost.com with overnight shipping included. I some good reviews, and some bad reviews, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but the price was right and the specs looked good so I went for it.

Design:
The monitor looks really nice. It has the traditional cube shape, but a very contoured appearance to form a modern look. There are five menu buttons on the bottom right corner of the monitor along with a 'Power' button and an indicator light. Hitachi states that it has the depth of a 17" monitor, and they are right. I compared it to my Mag 17", and they were about the same depths.

Performance:
I am amazed, at the very least. I have seen a lot of monitors in my lifetime, but I have never seen a monitor project colors in such a vibrant manner as this does. I was stunned when playing Quake III Arenaat 1600x1200 resolution. The colors really stood out in that game. As for web browsing, and business software, text was extremely sharp, and the small icons were very clear. The monitor's complex menu made the picture very adjustable and customizable. It is not too complicating for novice users to understand and it has more than enough features to satisfy techies such as myself.

Summary:
I heard some bad things about this monitor, but my experience with has been excellent. I would recommend this mid-range priced 19" monitor to anyone, for I haven't seen vibrant colors like this in any monitor. The great design, price, and performance make this an all-around excellent monitor that is worth every penny.
